Zentrum informiert. Es sollte feierlich im April 2013 eröffnet werden. Es freut uns, dass Sie uns weiterhin besuchten, trotz manchmal
schlechter Bedingungen wegen der Bauarbeiten. Man hofft, dass die neu errichteten Spa und Wellness Räumlichkeiten Ihnen höheren
Komfort und Entspannung während Ihres Aufenthaltes bieten.
Kaum hat es angefangen, schon ist wieder das Jahr zu Ende. Erlauben Sie mir mich bei Ihnen, bei unseren Stammgästen zu bedanken.

We have been informing you about the progress of construction work on our new Pupp Royal Spa centre on the pages of our hotel magazine all year round. The opening ceremony should take part in the centre in the course of April 2013. We are very happy that you keep
visiting us in spite of sometimes worse conditions caused by construction work. We do believe that the new spa and wellness rooms will
offer you a higher standard of comfort and relaxation during your stay.

Grandhotelu Pupp Andrea Pfeffer-Ferklová cenu Hoteliér roku 2012 v kategorii nezávislých hotelů. Obě významná ocenění jsou pro
Grandhotel Pupp nejen poděkováním za skvělou týmovou práci, ale další výzvou v poskytování prvotřídních hotelových služeb.
In der Umfrage der Fachleute im Fremdenverkehr und der reisenden Öffentlichkeit TTG Travel Awards 2012 platzierte sich das
Grandhotel Pupp an der zweiten Stelle in der Kategorie Die besten Hotels in der Tschechischen Republik. Auf der Jahresversammlung
der Assoziation der Hotels und Restaurants der Tschechischen Republik übernahm die Generaldirektorin vom Grandhotel Pupp Frau Andrea PfefferFerklová den Preis Hotelier des Jahres 2012 in der Kategorie selbstständige Hotels. Beide bedeutenden Würdigungen sind für das Grandhotel Pupp nicht
nur Dank für die hervorragende Teamarbeit, sondern auch eine Herausforderung weiter erstklassige Hoteldienstleistungen anzubieten.
The Grandhotel Pupp was placed second in the category The Best Hotels in the C.R. in the survey of the specialists in tourism and the travelling public TTG
Travel Awards 2012. At the annual conference of the Association of the Hotels and Restaurants of the Czech Republic the general manager of the Grandhotel
Pupp Andrea Pfeffer-Ferklová accepted the Best Hotelier of the Year 2012 prize in the category of independent hotels. Both the important prizes are not
only an expression of thanks for perfect team work but also another challenge of providing first-rate hotel services.

Karlovarský folklorní festival

Das Karlsbader Folklorefestival
Der diesjährige 45. Jahrgang des Festivals Tourfilm stellte die besten Tourismusfilme aus 136 Ländern der ganzen Welt vor. Den
Grand Prix erhielt der Film Gstaad Come Up, Slow Down, der den
berühmten Urlaubsort in der südwestlichen Schweiz vorstellt. Der
größte Festivalstar war der weltberühmte Taucher Sharkman Mike
Rutzen. Das Leitthema vom Tourfilm war das exotische Tahiti.
Karlovarský folklorní festival, který je nazýván mezinárodní folklorní lázní, roztančil v září celé město. Největší atrakcí byla vystoupení souborů z Nového Zélandu, Cookových ostrovů, Brazílie
a Rumunska. Karlovarský soubor Dyleň uvedl v původních krojích
Karlovarska lidové písně a tance nejzápadnější části Čech, tedy
kraje, kde po staletí vedle sebe žili Češi a Němci. Pěvecká a taneční
vystoupení doplnil jarmark lidových řemesel.
Das Karlsbader Folklorefestival, das als internationales Folklorebad
genannt wird, brachte in September die ganze Stadt zum Tanzen.
Die größte Attraktion waren die Auftritte der Ensembles aus
Neuseeland, den Cookinseln, Brasilien und Rumänien. Das
Karlsbader Ensemble Dyleň führte in ursprünglichen Trachten
Volkslieder und Tänze der Karlsbader Region auf, dem westlichsten Teil von Böhmen, also einer Region, wo jahrhundertelang nebeneinander Tschechen und Deutsche lebten. Die Gesangs- und
Tanzauftritte erweiterte ein Jahrmarkt der volkstümlichen
Handwerke.
Letošní 45. ročník festivalu Tourfilm předvedl nejlepší turistické
filmy ze 136 zemí celého světa. Grand Prix získal snímek Gstaad
Come Up, Slow Down, který představuje proslulé turistické středisko v jihozápadním Švýcarsku. Největší festivalovou hvězdou byl
světoznámý potápěč sharkman Mike Rutzen. Ústředním tématem
Tourfilmu bylo exotické Tahiti.
This year´s 45th Tourfilm festival presented the best films from 136
countries of the world. The Grand Prix went to the film Gstaad
Come Up, Slow Down which shows the famous tourist resort in
southwest Switzerland. The biggest star of the festival was the
world-famous diver-shark man Mike Rutzen. The main theme of
the Tourfilm was exotic Tahiti.
The Karlovy Vary Folklore Festival
The Karlovy Vary Folklore Festival, which is called the international folklore bath, made the whole town dance in September. The
biggest attractions were performances of the groups from New
Zealand, the Cook Islands, Brazil and Romania. The Karlovy Vary
folklore group Dyleň, whose members were dressed in original
costumes of the Karlovy Vary region, presented folk dances and
songs from the westernmost part of Bohemia, i.e. from the territory
where Czech and Germans have lived side by side for centuries.
Dance and singing performances were complemented with a fair of
folk handicrafts.

Jazzfest
V rámci festivalu Jazzfest se ve Slavnostním sále Grandhotelu Pupp
představil argentinský skladatel a saxofonista Javier Girotto v doprovodu českého saxofonového kvarteta Pigeon Saxophone
Quartet. Velkou hudební událostí také bylo uvedení jazzové symfonie Sinael Kryštofa Marka, který osobně dirigoval padesátičlenné
těleso složené z hudebníků Karlovarského symfonického orchestru
a Karlovarského Repre Bandu.
Im Rahmen des Festivals Jazzfest spielte im Festsaal vom Grandhotel
Pupp der argentinische Komponist und Saxofonist Javier Girotto, begleitet von dem tschechischen Saxofonquartett Pigeon Saxophone
Quartet. Ein großes musikalisches Ereignis war auch die Aufführung
der Jazzsinfonie Sinael von Kryštof Marek, der persönlich ein fünfzigköpfiges Orchester leitete. Es wurde von den Musikern des Karlsbader
Sinfonieorchesters und der des Karlsbader Repre Bands gebildet.
The Argentinean composer and saxophonist Javier Girotto accompanied by the Czech Pigeon Saxophone Quartet presented himself in
the Festive Hall of the Grandhotel Pupp. His concert was a part of the
festival Jazzfest. The presentation of the Jazz Symphony Sinael by
Kryštof Marek was a big musical event as well. The composer himself
conducted the orchestra consisting of fifty members of the Karlovy
Vary Symphony Orchestra and the Karlovy Vary Repre Band.
Svátek porcelánu i skla
Podzimní porcelánové trhy společnosti Thun 1794 před
Grandhotelem Pupp navštívily stovky obdivovatelů křehké krásy.
Na letošním ročníku také participovala agentura CzechTourism,
pod jejíž záštitou proběhla výstava originálního českého uměleckého skla Františka Halamy a prezentace projektu Čtrnáct klenotů
v srdci Evropy, jehož autorkou je známá módní návrhářka Jana
Berg. „Projekt Čtrnáct klenotů v srdci Evropy je nejen příležitostí
ukázat pestrost českých tradičních řemesel, ale zároveň může turistům atraktivní formou prezentovat jednotlivé kraje České republiky,“ uvedl ředitel České centrály cestovního ruchu CzechTourism
Rostislav Vondruška.

Das Porzellan- und Glasfest
Der Porzellanmarkt der Gesellschaft Thun 1794 vor dem
Grandhotel Pupp wurde im Herbst von Hunderten Bewunderer
der zerbrechlichen Schönheit besucht. Am diesjährigen Jahrgang
beteiligte sich auch die Agentur CzechTourism. Sie übernahm
Patronat für die Ausstellung der originellen tschechischen Glas
kunst von František Halama und für das Projekt Vierzehn
Kleinoden im Herzen Europas, dessen Autorin die bekannte
Modedesignerin Jana Berg ist. „Das Projekt Vierzehn Kleinoden im
Herzen Europas ist nicht nur die Gelegenheit die Vielfalt der traditionellen tschechischen Handwerke zu zeigen, sondern auch die
Gelegenheit den Touristen auf attraktive Art und Weise die einzelnen Regione der Tschechischen Republik vorzustellen,“ teilte der
Direktor der Tschechischen Fremdenverkehrszentrale Czech
Tourism Rostislav Vondruška mit.

Festival of porcelain and glass
Hundreds of admirers of subtle beauty visited the autumn porcelain market of the company Thun 1794 in front of the Grandhotel
Pupp. The agency Czech Tourism, too, took part in it this year. The
exhibition of the original Czech art glass by František Halama and
the presentation of the project Fourteen Jewels in the Heart of
Europe, whose creator was the famous fashion designer Jana Berg,
were held under its auspices. “The project Fourteen Jewels in the
Heart of Europe is not only an occasion to show how varied traditional Czech handicrafts are but it is also a way of presentation of
individual regions of the Czech Republic to tourists,” said Rostislav
Vondruška, the director of the Czech Tourist Authority –
CzechTourism.
Automobilové hvězdy
V záři reflektorů tentokrát nestály hollywoodské stars, ale hvězdy
na čtyřech kolech, o nic méně atraktivní. Grandhotel Pupp přivítal
akce Mattoni Engine Carlsbad Classic, Lagonda Rallye a své setkání
si zde naplánovali také příznivci značky Jaguar. Největším zážitkem
nadlouho zůstane představení nového luxusního vozu Ferrari F12
Berlinetta. Nablýskaný červený vůz legendární značky sklidil
aplaus při své premiéře uprostřed Slavnostního sálu.

Im Rampenlicht standen diesmal nicht die Hollywood-Stars, sondern die genauso attraktiven Stars auf vier Rädern. Das Grandhotel
Pupp hieß die Veranstaltungen Mattoni Engine Carlsbad Classic
und Lagonda Rallye willkommen, dazu trafen sich hier die Fans der
Marke Jaguar. Das größte Erlebnis bleibt für lange Zeit die
Vorstellung des neuen Luxuswagens Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Der
polierte rote Wagen der legendären Marke erntete Beifall während
seiner Premiere mitten im Festsaal.
Car stars
This time it was not the stars of Hollywood but four-wheeled stars
that enjoyed the limelight; however, they were not less attractive.
The Grandhotel Pupp welcomed such events as Mattoni Engine
Carlsbad Classic and Lagonda Rally and the fans of the make
Jaguar, too, organized their meeting here. But the biggest experience was the presentation of the luxury car Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. The
polished red car of the legendary make earned applause during its
premiere in the middle of the Festive Hall.
Mezinárodní pěvecká soutěž Antonína Dvořáka
Mezinárodní pěvecká soutěž Antonína Dvořáka každoročně přivádí do Karlových Varů mladé nadějné pěvce z celého světa. Z mnohých vyrůstají slavné operní hvězdy předních světových scén.
Letošního 47. ročníku se zúčastnilo na sedm desítek interpretů.

Předsedou odborné mezinárodní poroty byl významný slovenský
operní pěvec Peter Dvorský. Koncert laureátů a vítězů jednotlivých
kategorií se uskutečnil v Karlovarském městském divadle.
Der Internationale
Antonín Dvořák Gesangswettbewerb
Der Internationale Antonín Dvořák Gesangswettbewerb führt jedes Jahr die jungen talentierten Sänger aus der ganzen Welt nach
Karlsbad. Aus vielen werden berühmte Opernstars der bekanntesten Bühnen der Welt. Am diesjährigen 47. Jahrgang nahmen an die
siebzig Interpreten teil. Der Vorsitzende der internationalen
Fachjury war der bedeutende slowakische Opernsänger Peter
Dvorský. Das Konzert der Preisträger und der Gewinner der einzelnen Kategorien fand im Karlsbader Stadttheater statt.
The Antonín Dvořák Singing Contest
The Antonín Dvořák Singing Contest brings young promising
singers from the whole world to Karlovy Vary every year. Lots of
them grow into famous opera stars of foremost opera houses all
over the world. About seventy singers participated in the 47th year
of the contest this year. The head of the international jury was the
prominent Slovakian opera singer Peter Dvorský. The concert of
laureates and winners of individual categories was held in the
Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre.

s ŘEDITELKOU
KARLOVARSKÉHO
MĚSTSKÉHO DIVADLA
Ředitelkou Karlovarského městského divadla je Dana Neumannová.
V oblasti kultury pracuje už třicet dva let. Narodila se v Mariánských
Lázních, kde také vystudovala střední ekonomickou školu. Na pražské knihovnické škole absolvovala obor kulturně-výchovná činnost.
Po studiu pracovala v Okresním kulturním středisku v Karlových
Varech, v Městském kulturním centru Amethyst, v Karlovarském
symfonickém orchestru a od roku 1999 působí v Karlovarském městském divadle. Celá její rodina (manžel a dvě dcery) je umělecky zaměřená, zvláště na hudbu a zpěv. Dana Neumannová nejvíc času
tráví v divadle, přesto si nachází čas na návštěvy dalších kulturních
pořadů ve městě, ale i na květinovou zahrádku a také na malého
vnoučka… Její snahou je, aby se v karlovarském divadle představili
nejlepší čeští režiséři s vynikajícími hereckými hvězdami a aby představení místního divadelního souboru prolínala s operními, operetními a baletními inscenacemi a koncerty. Přeje si, aby hlediště plnilo jak domácí obecenstvo, tak zahraniční hosté. Říká, že práce je jí
opravdu koníčkem.
jsem se přivdala a v roce 1987 jsem měla v tomto slavném a nádherném hotelu svatební hostinu. Než jsme s manželem našli vlastní
bydlení, bydleli jsme v domě Luisa, který byl jeho součástí. V té době
můj manžel dokonce „v Puppu“ pracoval. Vždy jsem obdivovala
skvostný Slavnostní sál. Často tam navštěvuji kulturní a společenské
akce. Starší dcera zde také měla maturitní ples. „Do Puppu“ se
s manželem rádi vracíme i dnes, protože máme na toto místo krásné
vzpomínky a k celému hotelu si uchováváme blízký vztah.
Jak se Vám žije v Karlových Varech?
Krásně. Jsem typický patriot a moc bych si přála, aby naše město
mělo jen tu nejlepší pověst. Svoji práci v divadle mám moc ráda.
Patřím mezi ty šťastné lidi, kteří se ještě po letech do práce těší, i když
vždy nebylo snadné některá období překonat. Za svou divadelní kariéru jsem zde získala také řadu přátel.
Dana Neumannová ist die Direktorin des Karlsbader Stadttheaters. Im
Kulturbereich arbeitet sie bereits zweiunddreißig Jahre lang. Sie wurde
in Marienbad geboren, wo sie auch die Fachoberschule für Ökonomie
beendete. An der Prager Bibliotheksschule studierte sie die Fachrichtung
kulturell-erzieherische Tätigkeit. Nach dem Studium arbeitete sie im
Bezirkskulturzentrum in Karlsbad, im städtischen Kulturzentrum
Amethyst, im Karlsbader Sinfonieorchester und seit dem Jahre 1999
wirkt sie im Karlsbader Stadttheater. Ihre ganze Familie (der Ehemann
und zwei Töchter) ist künstlerisch orientiert, vor allem auf die Musik
und den Gesang. Dana Neumannová verbringt die meiste Zeit im
Theater, trotzdem findet sie die Zeit für den Besuch von weiteren kulturellen Veranstaltungen in der Stadt sowie für den Blumengarten und
für den kleinen Enkel… Sie bemüht sich, dass sich im Karlsbader
Máte ve městě své oblíbené místo?
Mým oblíbeným místem je kostel sv. Máří Magdalény, který s rodinou
pravidelně navštěvuji, a kde každou neděli zpívá moje dcera Mirka.
Jaký máte vztah ke Grandhotelu Pupp?
Můj vztah ke Grandhotelu Pupp je dost osobní. Do Karlových Varů

Co byste vzkázala našim čtenářům?
Čtenářům Pupp Journalu blahopřeji, že se ocitli v jednom z nekrásnějších hotelů na světě. Ráda bych je také pozvala do našeho divadla,
už proto, že oba historické objekty mají mnoho společného. Určitě si
z pestré programové nabídky vyberou.

Theater die besten tschechischen Regisseure mit hervorragenden
Schauspielern vorstellen und dass die Vorstellungen des hiesigen
Theaterensembles von Opern, Operetten, Ballettaufführungen und
Konzerten ergänzt werden. Sie wünscht sich, dass den Zuschauerraum
sowohl die einheimischen, als auch die ausländischen Gäste füllen. Sie
sagt, dass ihr Beruf ihr wahres Hobby ist.

is trying to bring the best Czech directors with excellent actors to the
Karlovy Vary theatre and to combine the performances of the local
theatre group with operas, operettas, ballets and concerts. Her wish
is to have the audience full of both local inhabitants and foreign visitors. She says that her job is really her hobby.
Wie lebt es sich Ihnen in Karlsbad?
Schön. Ich liebe meine Stadt und ich würde mir sehr wünschen, dass
unsere Stadt nur den besten Ruf hat. Meine Arbeit in dem Theater
habe ich sehr gerne. Ich gehöre zu den glücklichen Menschen, die
sich noch nach Jahren in die Arbeit freuen, obwohl es nicht immer
leicht war, manche Zeiten zu überwinden. Während meiner
Theaterkarriere gewann ich hier auch viele Freunde.
How do you like living in Karlovy Vary?
A lot. It is beautiful. I am a typical patriot and I wish our town had
only the best reputation. I love my work in the theatre very much. I am
one of those lucky people who look forward to work even after years
though it has not always been easy to go through some of the periods.
I have also found lots of friends during my theatre career here.
Haben Sie in der Stadt Ihren Lieblingsort?
Mein Lieblingsort ist die Maria Magdalena Kirche, die ich regelmäßig mit meiner Familie besuche, und wo jeden Sonntag meine
Tochter Mirka singt.
Welche Beziehung haben Sie zum Grandhotel Pupp?
Meine Beziehung zum Grandhotel Pupp ist ziemlich persönlich. Ich
habe nach Karlsbad geheiratet und im Jahre 1987 hatte ich in diesem
berühmten und wunderschönen Hotel das Hochzeitsmahl. Bevor ich
mit meinem Ehemann eigenes Wohnen fand, wohnten wir in dem
Haus Luisa, das sein Bestandteil war. Zu dieser Zeit arbeitete mein
Ehemann sogar „im Pupp“. Ich bewunderte immer den prachtvollen
Festsaal. Ich besuche hier oft kulturelle und gesellschaftliche
Veranstaltungen. Die ältere Tochter hatte hier ihren Abiturball. „In
den Pupp“ kommen wir mit dem Ehemann auch heute gerne zurück,
weil wir an diesen Ort schöne Erinnerungen haben und wir haben
zu dem gesamten Hotel eine enge Beziehung.
Was würden Sie unseren Lesern ausrichten?
Den Lesern vom Pupp Journal gratuliere ich, dass sie sich in einem

Do you have your favourite place in the town?
My favourite place is the Mary Magdalena Church where I regularly go
with my family and where my daughter Mirka sings every Sunday.
What relationship do you have to the Grandhotel Pupp?
My relationship to the Grandhotel Pupp is quite personal. I married
into Karlovy Vary and had my wedding banquet in this famous and
wonderful hotel in 1987. Before my husband and I found our own
flat, we had lived in the house Luisa which used to be a part of the
hotel complex. My husband even worked in the Pupp in those days.
I have always admired the beautiful Festive Hall. I often visit cultural
and social events there. My older daughter had her maturita ball
there. I keep on returning to the Pupp with my husband even today
because our memories connected with it are nice and we still have
a very close relation to the whole hotel.
What message would you like to send to our readers?
I congratulate the readers of the Pupp Journal on being in one of the
most beautiful hotels in the world. I would like to invite them to our
theatre too, also because the two buildings have a lot in common.
They will definitely choose a programme from our wide offer.
AN INTERVIEW WITH THE DIRECTOR
OF THE KARLOVY VARY MUNICIPAL THEATRE
The director of the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre is Dana
Neumannová. She has been working in the field of culture for thirtytwo years already. She was born in Mariánské Lázně where she studied the business college. Later she studied culture and education at
the school for librarians in Prague. After she had finished her studies,
she worked in the District Cultural Centre in Karlovy Vary, the
Municipal Cultural Centre Amethyst, in the Karlovy Vary Symphony
Orchestra and she has been working in the Karlovy Vary Municipal
Theatre since 1999. All her family (her husband and two daughters)
are oriented towards art, especially toward music and singing. Dana
Neumannová spends most time in the theatre, in spite of it she finds
time not only to visit other cultural events in the town but also to

Ozvěny architektury
Abychom pochopili složitý a dlouhý zrod Grandhotelu Pupp v jeho
dnešní architektonické podobě, je třeba pohlédnout v čase zpátky
- do 18. a 19. století a připomenout, že dnešní hotel vyrostl z celé
řady menších budov, které Puppové postupně skoupili a přestavěli.
Vše začalo v roce 1701 stavbou Saského sálu na popud saského
kurfiřta Augusta Silného. V dochovaném zápisu čteme: V Karlových
Varech jsme postavili dům Salle de l´Asemblée, jenž si vyžádal náklad 2 000 zlatých. Je postaven podle italského návrhu, se čtyřmi záchody, s pohodlnými lůžkovými odpočívadly a s tajemnými zákoutími. Z Drážďan jsme přivezli na šesti vozech lustry a zrcadla, jež
zkrášlí novou budovu, a 16. dubna se tu bude odbývat maškaráda,
kde hraběnka Königsmarková bude představovat Dianu sledovanou
šesti nymfami.
Patrně někdy před rokem 1715 vybudoval karlovarský starosta
Andreas Becher na své louce v těsné blízkosti Saského sálu konkurenční Český sál. Když v roce 1759 Karlovy Vary včetně radnice
vyhořely, konala se v Českém sále zasedání městské rady. Český sál
se začal výrazně vzmáhat až poté, co dostal roku 1778 nového
podnikavého majitele Johanna Georga Puppa.
V roce 1730 byl vedle Českého sálu postaven barokní dům Boží
oko, majetek rodiny Deimlů, kteří vlastnili také Saský sál.
Zajímavostí je, že dům Boží oko získali Puppové do svého hotelového impéria po letitém úsilí až v roce 1936.
Ke sjezdu německých přírodovědců a lékařů v září 1862 nechal

karlovarský magistrát před Českým sálem na pozemku Puppů
zbudovat dřevěný konferenční sál. O rok později, 3. června 1863,
byla budova po interiérových úpravách otevřena jako slavný koncertní Café-Salon. Dnes stojí na jeho místě neméně známý
Slavnostní sál.
Roku 1877 byl postaven tzv. Parkhotel Pupp, jenž pak byl roku
1883 rozšířen o další trakt. V průvodci po Karlových Varech z roku
1888 se o Grandhotelu Pupp pochvalně píše: Řady domů a bazarů
Staré louky zakončeny jsou světoznámým Puppovým závodem, sestávajícím z několika nádherných budov, s velmi drahými, protože
s přepychem zařízenými pokoji hostinskými, s velikou kavárnou, restaurací a rozsáhlou zahradní místností i sadem. Poněvadž tu před
Českým, tu před Saským sálem, buď městská či lázeňská kapela odpoledne koncertují, může tu každý denně míti hudební požitek zdarma. Podobné příjemné „louky“ marně bys hledal po celém světě.
Konečná podoba Grandhotelu Pupp, kterou známe dnes, pochází
z přestavby komplexu v letech 1892-1893 podle tehdy nejnovějších
stavebních a designových trendů v duchu pozdního historismu
a s nenápadnými ohlasy nastupující secese.

Damit man die komplizierte und lange Entstehung vom Grandhotel
Pupp in seiner heutigen architektonischen Gestalt begreift, muss
man in der Zeit zurückblicken, ins 18. und 19. Jahrhundert und

darauf hinweisen, dass das heutige Grandhotel Pupp aus einer
ganzen Reihe von kleineren Gebäuden entstand, die die Pupps
nach und nach kauften und umbauten.
Alles begann im Jahre 1701, als auf Veranlassung des sächsischen
Kurfürsten August des Starken der Sächsische Saal aufgebaut wurde.
Im erhaltenem Schreiben kann man lesen: Wir haben hier in
Karlsbad das Haus Salle de l´Asemblée gebaut, das 2 000 fl. kostet. Es
ist von italienischer Erfindung mit vier Retiraden, Halbdunkelplätzen,
Ruhebetten. Wir haben von Dresden sechs Wagen mit Lüstern und
Spiegeln zur Ausschmückung des Gebäudes mitgebracht und den
16. April sollen wir eine Maskerade haben, worin die Gräfin Königs
mark die Diana vorstellt und, von 6 Nymphen gefolgt, auftritt.
Wahrscheinlich irgendwann vor dem Jahre 1715 erbaute der
Karlsbader Bürgermeister Andreas Becher auf seiner Wiese, in der
unmittelbaren Nahe des Sächsischen Saales den konkurrierenden
Böhmischen Saal. Als im Jahre 1759 Karlsbad einschliesslich des
Rathauses abbrannte, fanden im Böhmischen Saal bis zu seiner
Herrichtung die Stadtratsitzungen statt. Der Bohmische Saal erhohte deutlich die Qualität seiner gastwirtschaftlichen
Dienstleistungen erst dann, als er im Jahre 1778 einen neuen unternehmenslustigen Eigentümer Johann Georg Pupp bekam.
Im Jahre 1730 neben dem Böhmischen Saal wurde das Barockhaus
Auge Gottes gebaut. Eigentum der Familie Deiml, die, wie man
schon weis, den Sächsischen Saal besass.

Es ist interessant, dass die Pupps das Auge Gottes in ihr Hotelimpe
rium nach jahrelangen Bemühungen erst im Jahre 1936 gewannen.
Zu der Tagung der deutschen Naturwissenschaftler und Ärzte im
September 1862 lies der Magistrat vor dem Böhmischen Saal auf
dem Puppschen Grundstück einen holzernen Konferenzsaal erbauen. Ein Jahr später, am 3. Juni 1863, wurde dieses Gebäude nach
Innenraumumbildung als berühmter Cafe-Salon eröffnet. Heute
ist an seiner Stelle der nicht weniger bekannte Festsaal.
Im Jahre 1877 wurde das sog. Parkhotel Pupp errichtet. Dies wurde dann im Jahre 1883 um einen weiteren Flügel ausgebaut.
Der Reiseführer durch Karlsbad aus dem Jahre 1888 lobte das
Grandhotel Pupp mit diesen Worten: Die Reihe der Häuser und
Basaren der Alten Wiese sind vom weltbekannten Puppbetrieb beendet. Dieser besteht aus einigen wunderschönen Gebäuden, mit sehr
teueren, luxuriös eingerichteten Gästezimmern, mit einem großen
Café, einem Restaurant und einem umfangreichen Gartenraum und
einer Parkanlage. Weil einmal vor dem Böhmischen, einmal vor dem
Sächsischen Saal, die Stadt-, oder die Kurkapelle am Nachmittag
konzertiert, kann hier jeder täglich ein Musikgenuss kostenlos erleben. Ähnlich angenehme „Wiesen“ würdest du vergeblich auf der
Welt suchen.
Ein ganz neues Grandhotel Pupp in der Gestalt, die man heute
kennt, wurde in den Jahren 1892-1893 nach den damals neuesten
Bau- und Designtrends, im Sinn des späteren Historismus und mit
unauffälligen Reflexionen des beginnenden Jugendstils gebaut.

Echoes of Architecture
To understand the complex and long development of Grandhotel
Pupp to its present-day architectural form, we need to look back in
time to the 18th and 19th century and to remind ourselves that the
current extensive hotel complex was formed from a number of
smaller buildings bought and reconstructed by the Pupp family.
All started with the construction of the Saxony Hall in 1701 which
had been initiated by Augustus the Strong, the Elector of Saxony. An
old entry says: We built the Salle de l’Asemblee in Carlsbad and the
total expenses incurred amounted to 2,000 guldens. It is built according
to Italian design, with four powder rooms, mysterious recesses, and
comfortable resting places furnished with sofas. Six carriages brought
chandeliers and mirrors from Dresden to decorate the new building
where a bal masque is to take place on 16 April, at which Countess
Königsmark shall impersonate Diana pursued by six nymphs.
Sometime before 1715 the Carlsbad Mayor, Andreas Becher, built
the competitive Czech Hall or Böhmischer Saal on his meadow
near Saxony Hall. When the entire town of Carlsbad, including its
town hall, was devastated by a fire in 1759, the meetings of the town
council were held at Czech Hall. Czech Hall significantly increased
the quality of its hospitality services after it was taken over by an
enterprising new owner in 1778: Johann Georg Pupp.
In 1730, a Baroque house called God´s Eye was built next to Czech
Hall. It was in the possession of the Deiml family, which, as we already know, were the owners of Saxony Hall. After years of efforts,
the Pupps finally succeeded in acquiring God’s Eye and making it
a part of their hotel empire just in 1936.
In September 1862 the town council built in front of the Czech Hall
a wooden conference hall at the occasion of the imposing convention of German natural historians and doctors of medicine. A year
later, after a renovation of the interiors, Heinrich Pupp re-opened

the building under the new name of Café-Salon on 3 June 1863.
Today there is the no less famous Festive Hall in its place.
In 1877, the so-called Parkhotel Pupp was built on the site of the
old building. Another wing was added in 1883.
In the guide of Carlsbad from 1888 the Grandhotel Pupp was praised as follows: The rows of houses and bazaars at the Old Meadow
end at the world-renowned Pupp Establishment, comprising of
a number of magnificent buildings with very expensively, luxuriously
furnished guest rooms, with a spacious café, a restaurant, as well as
a large garden pavilion and a park. Because the town band or the spa
orchestra give regular afternoon concerts in front of the Czech or
Saxony Hall, all can enjoy music free of charge every day. You would
hardly find a similarly pleasant “meadow” anywhere in the world.
During the years of 1892 and 1893, the Pupp brothers built
Grandhotel Pupp in the appearance and design we know today.

Z čeho se vyrábí whisky
a thousan d tastes of w his k y
Výchozím materiálem pro výrobu malt whisky je voda a ječmen,
ale také kvasinky.
Voda je základem všeho, a není to vždy jen voda pramenitá. Často
protéká loukami, bažinami, mechem, rašeliništi a vřesovišti, což je
právě určující pro příchuť whisky. Může být bylinná či trávová,
může být rašelinná. Z vřesu získává whisky květinovou a medovitou
příchuť. Nápoj může mít díky vodě i různý obsah minerálů. Stává se
však, že tradiční vodní zdroje vysychají, ať již dočasně či natrvalo,
pak jsou některé palírny občas nuceny používat vodu ze sítě.
Odlišnost jednotlivých druhů whisky je dána i podložím, kterým
voda prochází - v Nížině jsou horniny bohaté na uhlík, na Islay jsou
horniny železité, ve Speyside je všeobecně měkká voda díky žule,
naopak na Orknejích je voda tvrdá a Glenmorangie čerpá vodu
z pískovců. Voda je tedy jednou z příčin, proč se produkty jednotlivých palíren od sebe tak liší.
Ječmen je druhou základní výchozí surovinou pro výrobu skotské
single malt. Zajímavostí je, že ve Skotsku a v Irsku se na slad zpracovává dvouřadý ječmen, na bourbon a žitnou je používán šestiřadý. Velmi záleží na obsahu dusíku v ječmenu pro jeho vliv na přeměnu uhlohydrátů v cukry. Množství uhlohydrátů působí na chuťové složky nápoje. Ve většině palíren je používána tradiční odrůda
ječmene Golden Promise (zlatý příslib) neboť při použití jiných
výnosnějších odrůd, je rozdíl chuti údajně dosti podstatný. Problém
tkví ovšem v tom, že výnosy této odrůdy při dnešním rozvoji výroby whisky zdaleka nestačí poptávce. Např. Macallan, který ještě
před nedávnem vyráběl whisky ze 100 % Golden Promise, dnes
touto sortou nepokrývá ani polovinu produkce. Ve Skotsku se vyrábí jen ze sladovaného ječmene, zatímco v Irsku se používá ječmen sladovaný i nesladovaný.
Bez zajímavosti není výrok Winstona Churchilla, kdy za druhé
světové války odhadl whisky jako pevný zdroj příjmů: „Za žádných
okolností nebude sníženo množství ječmene pro výrobu whisky.“
Z dalších druhů obilí se používá sladované i nesladované žito,
především v USA a Kanadě, produkt se však vždy míchá. Čistá
žitná whisky pochází jenom z kanadské Alberty a kalifornské
Anchor Distillery.
Další používanou obilovinou je kukuřice, která je nenahraditelná
při výrobě bourbonů a je také důležitou složkou při výrobě grain
whisky pro míchané v Irsku i Skotsku.
Pšenice není při produkci whisky prvořadou obilovinou, ale důležitou přísadou. Ve Skotsku a Irsku je používána výhradně při výrobě obilné. U některých bourbonů, např. Maker´s Mark, je druhou
složkou po kukuřici.

Rýže je používána k výrobě whisky výhradně v Asii a oves, který
v devatenáctém století byl téměř nepostradatelný, již dávno z procesu zcela zmizel pro svůj lepkavý charakter a nebezpečí výbuchu
při ucpání kotle.
Kvasinky jsou důležitým katalyzátorem, který přeměňuje cukry na
alkohol a kysličník uhličitý a v konečném efektu dodává whisky
její typický charakter. Existují dva základní druhy kvasinek: kvalitnější a dražší palírenské a levnější pivovarské. Někde se používají
jen kvasinky palírenské, někde se oba druhy míchají. Některé palírny používají i více kmenů kvasinek, Macallan ještě v devadesátých
letech používal pět, dnes už jen dva kmeny. Výjimky najdeme
v USA - palírna Jack Daniel´s používá kdysi dávno získané kvasinky pekárenské, palírna Michter´s z Pennsylvánie používala kvasinky vinařské. V Kentucky si řada vyhlášených palíren svůj kmen
kvasinek velmi pečlivě ochraňuje a uchovává v tajnosti. Zajímavostí
je, že se k některým kvasinkám přidává i chmel, který podstatně
fermentaci urychluje.
Woraus wird der Whisky erzeugt
Das Ausgangsmaterial für die Herstellung vom Malt Whisky sind
nicht nur das Wasser und die Gerste, sondern auch die Gärhefe.
Das Wasser ist die Grundlage von allem, und es ist nicht immer nur
das Quellwasser. Oft fließt es durch die Wiesen, Sümpfe, das Moos,
durchs Moor und die Heiden, was gerade für den Geschmack vom
Whisky bestimmend ist. Er kann den Geschmack von Kräutern, Gras
oder Moor haben. Vom Heidenkraut bekommt der Whisky einen
Blumen- und Honiggeschmack. Das Getränk kann dank des Wassers
auch einen verschiedenen Mineraliengehalt haben. Es kommt jedoch
vor, dass die traditionellen Wasserquellen austrocknen, ob vorübergehend oder für immer, dann sind manche Brennereien ab und zu
gezwungen, das Leitungswasser zu benutzen.
Der Unterschied der einzelnen Whiskysorten ist auch durch den
Unterboden gegeben, durch den das Wasser fließt – im Flachland
sind die Gesteine reich an Kohlenstoff, auf Islay sind die Gesteine
eisenhaltig, in Speyside ist dank Granit allgemein weiches Wasser,
hingegen auf den Orkney Inseln ist das Wasser hart und
Glenmorangie schöpft das Wasser aus dem Sandstein. Das Wasser
ist also einer der Gründe, warum sich die Produkte der einzelnen
Brennereien voneinander unterscheiden.
Die Gerste ist der zweite etnscheidende Rohstoff für die Herstellung
vom schottischen single malt. Es ist interessant, dass in Schottland
und in Irland für das Malz die zweizeilige Gerste verarbeitet wird,
für den Bourbon und den Kornbrand wird die sechszeilige Gerste
verwendet. Es kommt sehr auf den Stickstoffgehalt in der Gerste
an, deswegen, weil er Einfluss auf die Umwandlung der
Kohlenhydrate in Zucker hat. Die Menge der Kohlenhydrate hat
die Auswirkung auf den Geschmack des Getränkes. In den meisten
Brennereien wird die traditionelle Gerstensorte Golden Promise
(das goldene Versprechen) benutzt, denn wenn man andere rentablere Sorten benutzt, ist der Geschmacksunterschied angeblich
sehr beträchtlich. Das Problem besteht jedoch darin, dass die
Erträge dieser Sorte bei der heutigen Entwicklung der WhiskyHerstellung von Weitem nicht der Nachfrage ausreichen. Zum
Beispiel die Macallan Brenerei, die noch vor kurzer Zeit den
Whisky zu 100 % aus Golden Promise erzeugte, deckt heute mit
dieser Sorte nicht einmal die Hälfte der Produktion. In Schottland
wird nur aus der Malzgerste erzeugt, hingegen in Irland wird so
wohl die Malzgerste als auch die anderen Gerstensorten benutzt.
Interessant ist die Äußerung von Winston Churchill, als er im
zweiten Weltkrieg den Whisky als eine feste Einkommensquelle
schätzte: „Unter keinen Umständen wird die Gerstenmenge für die
Whisky-Herstellung gesenkt.“
Von weiteren Getreidesorten werden der malzige sowie der nicht
malzige Roggen benutzt, vor allem in den USA und in Kanada, das
Produkt wird jedoch immer gemischt. Der reine Roggenwhisky
stammt nur aus Alberta in Kanada und aus Anchor Distillery in
Kalifornien.
Ein weiteres gebrauchtes Getreide ist der Mais, der unersetzbar bei
der Bourbon-Herstellung ist, er ist auch ein wichtiger Bestandteil bei
der Herstellung vom Grain Whisky und für die gemischten Whiskeys
in Irland sowie für die gemischten Whiskys in Schottland.

Getreide, jedoch eine wichtige Zutat. In Schottland und in Irland
wird es ausschließlich bei der Herstellung vom Grainwhisky gebraucht. Bei manchen Bourbons, z. B. bei Maker´s Mark, ist es der
zweite Bestandteil nach dem Mais.
Der Reis wird zur Whisky-Herstellung ausschließlich in Asien
verwendet und der Hafer, der im neunzehnten Jahrhundert fast
unersetzbar war, ist längst aus dem Prozess völlig verschwunden,
wegen seines klebrigen Charakters und der Explosionsgefahr bei
der Kesselverstopfung.
Die Gärhefe ist ein wichtiger Katalysator, der die Zucker in Alkohol
und in Kohlendioxid umwandelt und im Endeffekt schenkt sie dem
Whisky seinen typischen Charakter. Es gibt im Grunde zwei
Hefesorten: die hochwertigeren und teureren Brennereihefen und
die billigeren Brauereihefen. Irgendwo verwendet man nur
Brennereihefen, irgendwo werden beide Sorten gemischt. Manche
Brennereien verwenden auch mehrere Hefestämme, Macallan verwendete noch in den neunziger Jahren fünf, heute bereits nur zwei
Stämme. Ausnahmen findet man in den USA – die Brennerei Jack
Daniel´s verwendet die einst gewonnenen Bäckerhefen, die
Brennerei Michter´s aus Pennsylvania verwendete die Weinhefen.
In Kentucky bewahrt eine Reihe von berühmten Brennereien ihren
Hefestamm sehr sorgfältig und hält ihn geheim. Interessant ist, dass
zu manchen Hefen auch der Hopfen zugegeben wird, der die
Fermentation wesentlich beschleunigt.

What is whisky made from?
Water and rye but also yeast are the most important factors in the
production of whisky.
Water is the basis and it is not always spring water. It often flows
through meadows, swampland, marshland, peat-bogs and heathland, which determines the taste of whisky. It can be herbal, grassy
or peaty. Heather gives it a floral and honey flavour. The beverage
can also differ in the amount of minerals it contains. It happens,
however, that traditional sources of water dry up for some time or
even forever and some distilleries are made to use water from the
water network. Differences in individual sorts of whisky are also
determined by the subsoil through which water goes – minerals

rich in carbon are in the Lowlands while those in Islay are rich in
iron, the water in Speyside is generally soft owing to granite, the
water in the Orkneys is hard and Glenmorangie takes water from
sandstone. So water is one of the reasons why the products of individual distilleries are so different.
Barley is the second most important raw material used in the production of Scotch single malt whisky. It is interesting that two rye
barley is used to make malt whisky in Scotland and Ireland while
bourbon and rye whisky are made from six row barley. The amount
of nitrogen in barley is of considerable importance too as it influences the transformation of carbohydrates into sugar. The amount
of carbohydrates influences the taste of the beverage. Most distilleries use the traditional Golden Promise species of barley because
when they use other higher-yielding varieties, the taste is said to be
considerably different. However the problem is that the present
yields of the Golden Promise variety are not big enough to cover
the demands of today´s whisky production. E.g. the Macallan
Distillery, which has recently been making whisky from the Golden
Promise barley, covers less than a half of its production with this
variety today. In Scotland they use only fermented barley while in
Ireland they use both fermented and non-fermented barley.
Winston Churchill´s statement from the time of the second world
war, when he guessed whisky could represent a source of fixed income, is interesting as well: “Under no circumstances will we not
reduce the amount of barley for the production of whisky.”
Of all varieties of grain fermented and non-fermented rye is used
especially in the U.S.A. and Canada, however, the final product is
always mixed. Pure rye whisky is made only in Canadian Alberta
and the Anchor Distillery in California.
Another used grain is maize, which is irreplaceable in the production of bourbon and is also an important component of grain
whisky in Ireland and Scotland.
Wheat is not the principal grain in the production of whisky;
however, it is an important ingredient. In Scotland and Ireland it is
used exclusively in the production of grain whisky. In some bourbons, e.g. in Maker´s Mark, it is the second most important component after maize. Rice is used exclusively in Asia and oat, which
was almost indispensable in the 19th century, disappeared from the
process a long time ago because of its sticky character and the danger of explosions when the tanks got blocked.
Yeast is an important catalyser which changes sugar into alcohol
and carbon dioxide and which gives whisky its typical character.
There are two basic sorts of yeast: the more quality and expensive
distillery yeast and cheaper brewer´s yeast. Sometimes only distillery yeast is used; sometimes the two types are mixed. Some distilleries even use more sorts of yeast. The Macallan Distillery used five
sorts still in the 1990s but today it uses only two. Exceptions can be
found in the U.S.A. – The Jack Daniel´s Distillery uses baker´s yeast
and the distillery Michter´ s from Pennsylvania used wine yeast.
A number of renowned distilleries in Kentucky carefully protects
their sorts of yeast and keeps them secret. It is interesting that hop,
too, is added to some yeasts to speed up fermentation.

Helen Mirren
Na Mezinárodním filmovém festivalu v Karlových Varech byl v roce 2012 uveden maďarsko-německý koprodukční film Za zavřenými dveřmi (The Door) režiséra Istvána Szabó, držitele Oscara za
film Mefisto (Mephisto, 1981). Výjimečnou hereckou příležitost ve
stylovém snímku z 60. let dostala i britská herečka Helen Mirrenová
(*1945). Filmová hvězda se karlovarského festivalu nejen zúčastnila, ale byla zde i oceněna Křišťálovým glóbusem za mimořádný
umělecký přínos světové kinematografii.
Helen Mirrenová pochází z bohaté britské rodiny s ruskými kořeny.
Přestože studovala pedagogiku, od svých jedenadvaceti let hrála
v divadelních dramatech a zároveň točila filmy. Svoji kariéru začala
v divadle National Youth Theatre a v roce 1967 se přidala k Royal
Shakespeare Company, kde zazářila v řadě slavných rolí. Svoji průlomovou roli dostala ve filmu Johna Mackenzieho Dlouhý velký
pátek (The Long Good Friday, 1980). Film Holky z kalendáře
(Calendar Girls, 1983) jí vynesl nominaci na Zlatý glóbus.
Psychologický snímek Bílé noci (White Nights, 1985) má pro ni
zásadní význam, protože díky němu poznala svého manžela Tailora
Hackforda, který drama režíroval. Film Gosford Park (2001) jí vynesl Cenu newyorských filmových kritiků a nominace na Oscara,
Zlatý glóbus a cenu Britské akademie. Velkou popularitu získala
díky postavě kriminalistky Jane Tennisonové v sérii televizních filmů Hlavní podezřelý (Prime Suspect, 1991-1993). Za herecký výkon v tomto televizním dramatu obdržela Cenu Emmy, Zlatý
glóbus a opět cenu Britské akademie. Její životní úlohou se stala

panovnice Alžběta II. v dramatu Královna (The Queen, 2006), za
niž dostala Volpiho pohár na MFF v Benátkách a prakticky všechny
angloamerické výroční ceny včetně Oscara v r. 2007. K jejím novějším filmům patří např. snímek Na odstřel (State of Play, 2009).
Elegantní, důstojná a charismatická, taková je jedna z nejznámějších a nejuznávanějších hereček. O to víc těší její poznámka na
tiskové konferenci v Karlových Varech: „Je báječné být v zemi s tak
velkou filmovou tradicí.“
Im Jahre 2012 wurde am Internationalen Filmfestival in Karlsbad
der ungarisch-deutsche Film Hinter der Tür (The Door) von dem
Regisseur István Szabó (Oscar-Preisträger für den Film Mephisto,
1981) aufgeführt. Eine einmalige Gelegenheit in diesem stilvollen
Film aus den 60er Jahren zu spielen, bekam auch die britische
Schauspielerin Helen Mirren (*1945). Diese Filmdiva nahm am
Karlsbader Festival nicht nur teil, sondern sie wurde hier auch mit
dem Kristallglobus für den außergewöhnlichen künstlerischen
Beitrag zur Weltkinematografie gewürdigt.
Helen Mirren stammt aus einer reichen britischen Familie mit
russischer Herkunft. Obwohl sie Pädagogik studierte, spielte sie
seit ihren einundzwanzig Jahren im Theater und gleichzeitig drehte sie Filme. Ihre Karriere begann im Theater National Youth
Theatre und im Jahre 1967 schloss sie sich der Royal Shakespeare
Company an, wo sie in mehreren berühmten Rollen glänzte. Ihre

Durchbruch-Rolle bekam sie im Film von John Mackenzie Rififi
am Karfreitag (The Long Good Friday, 1980). Der Film Kalender
Girls (Calendar Girls, 1983) brachte ihr eine Golden Globe

Entscheidung (White Nights, 1985) hat für sie eine große
Bedeutung. Dank ihm hat sie ihren Ehemann Tailor Hackford
kennengelernt, von dem das Drama regiert wurde. Der Film
Gosford Park (2001) brachte ihr den Preis der Filmkritiker
vereinigung New York und eine Oscar-Nominierung, den Golden
Globe und den Preis der Britischen Akademie. Große Popularität
hatte sie dank der Rolle der Kriminalistin Jane Tennison in der
Fernsehserie Heißer Verdacht (Prime Suspect, 1991-1993). Für die
schauspielerische Leistung in diesem Fernsehdrama erhielt sie den
Preis Emmy, den Golden Globe und erneut den Preis der Britischen
Akademie. Ihre Lebensrolle war die Herrscherin Elisabeth II. im
Drama Die Queen (The Queen, 2006). Für diese Rolle bekam sie
den Volpi Pokal am IFF in Venedig und praktisch alle angloamerikanischen Preise einschließlich des Oscars im Jahre 2007. Zu ihren
neueren Filmen gehört z. B. der Film Stand der Dinge (State of
Play, 2009).
Elegant, würdevoll und charismatisch, so ist eine der bekanntesten
und anerkanntesten Schauspielerinnen. Um so mehr freut ihre
Bemerkung auf der Pressekonferenz in Karlsbad: „Es ist wunderbar
im Land mit so großer Filmtradition zu sein.“

Helen Mirren comes of a rich British family with Russian roots.
Though she studied education, she has played in theatre dramas
and shot films since she was twenty-one. Her career started in the
National Youth Theatre to which she added the Royal Shakespeare
Company in 1968 where she starred in a number of famous parts.
She got her breakthrough part in John Mackenzie´s film The Long
Good Friday (1980). The film Calendar Girls (1983) brought her
a nomination for the Golden Globe. The psychological film White
Nights (1985) is of a cardinal importance for her as she got to know
her future husband, the director of the film Tailor Hackford, during
the shooting. The film Gosford Park (2001) brought her the Award
of New York Film Reviewers and an Oscar nomination, the Golden
Globe and the award of the British Academy. She gained huge popularity after she had played the criminologist Jane Tennison in the
series of television films Prime Suspect (1991-1993). She received

městské divadlo
Při procházce po promenádě Staré louky upoutá váš zrak půvabná
budova na protějším břehu říčky Teplé. Je to sídlo múz – městské
divadlo. Bylo postaveno v letech 1884-1886 podle projektů slavných
vídeňských architektů Ferdinanda Fellnera a Hermanna Helmera,
z jejichž ateliéru vzešly významné stavby v mnoha evropských
městech. I Slavnostní sál Grandhotelu Pupp nese jejich rukopis.
Divadelní budova vás zaujme harmonií tvarů střechy, balkónů, soch
a štukové fasády i krásnou markýzou nad vchodem. Pozdní historismus se zde malebně snoubí s barokními a rokokovými prvky.
Okřídlené múzy, andílci a antičtí griffoni jsou dílem vídeňského
sochaře Theodora Friedla.
A což teprve okouzlující interiér! Štuky citlivě zdůrazněné zlacením,
nevídané lampy ve tvaru tančících párů, veliký centrální lustr a nádherné nástěnné a nástropní malby. Celý svět se dnes obdivuje malíři
Gustavu Klimtovi, a jen málokdo ví, že to byl právě on, nejpřednější
představitel vídeňské secese, kdo spolu s bratrem Ernstem a přítelem
Franzem Maschem vyzdobil karlovarské divadlo. Největším pokladem, který divadelní budova ukrývá, je alegorická opona Oslava
básnického umění. I tu vytvořili bratři Klimtové spolu s Maschem.
Pod hemžením múz najdete v dolní části opony tři hudebníky – autoportréty samotných tvůrců opony.
V roce 1999 bylo po pětileté finančně nákladné obnově, na kterou
pořádali sbírku i sami karlovarští občané, divadlo znovu otevřeno,
aby opět sloužilo svým návštěvníkům v plné kráse. Umění na vás
dýchne nejen z jeviště, ale ze všech prostor této nádherné budovy.

Das Karlsbader Stadttheater
Wenn Sie auf der Promenade der Alten Wiese spazieren gehen, wird
Ihr Blick sicher von einem zauberhaften Gebäude am gegenüberliegenden Ufer des Flusses Tepl gefesselt. Es ist das Zuhause der Musen
– das Stadttheater. Es wurde in den Jahren 1884-1886 nach einem
Projekt der berühmten Wiener Architekten Ferdinand Fellner und
Hermann Helmer erbaut. In ihrem Atelier entstanden bedeutende
Gebäude von vielen europäischen Städten. Auch der Festsaal im
Grandhotel Pupp trägt ihre Handschrift. Am Theatergebäude werden
Sie die harmonischen Formen des Daches, der Balkone, der Statuen
und der Stuckfassade sowie der schönen Markise über dem Eingang
faszinieren. Der Historismus verbindet hier in Harmonie das Barock
mit dem Rokoko. Die beflügelten Musen, die Engel und die antiken
Greife sind ein Werk des Wiener Bildhauers Theodor Friedl.
Und was erst die bezaubernden Innenräume! Der Stuck ist gefühlvoll
vergoldet, die märchenhaften Lampen in Form von tanzenden
Paaren, der große zentrale Lüster und die wunderschönen Wandund Deckengemälde. Die ganze Welt bewundert heute den Maler
Gustav Klimt, und kaum jemand weiß, dass es gerade er war, der
vorderste Vertreter der Wiener Sezession, der zusammen mit seinem
Bruder Ernst und seinem Freund Franz Masch das Karlsbader
Theater dekorierte. Der größte Schatz, den das Theatergebäude verbirgt, ist der allegorische Bühnenvorhang die Apotheose der
Dichtkunst. Auch diesen schufen die Gebrüder Klimt zusammen mit
Masch. Unter dem Gewimmel der Musen findet man im unteren Teil
VISIT
des Vorhanges drei Musiker – die Selbstporträts der Autoren.
Im Jahre 1999 wurde das Theater wieder eröffnet und es zeigte sich
seinen Besuchern in voller Pracht. Die fünfjährige Renovierung war
finanziell sehr aufwendig, selbst die Karlsbader Bürger veranstalteten
eine Geldsammlung. Die Kunst spüren Sie nicht nur von der Bühne,
sondern auch in allen Räumen dieses wunderschönen Gebäudes.

In 1999 the theatre was reopened after five-year-long and expensive
renovation, for which the inhabitants of Karlovy Vary, too, had
raised money, to serve its visitors in all its glory again. Not only the
stage but all the rooms of this beautiful building are filled with art.
The Municipal Theatre in Karlovy Vary
When walking along the Stará louka promenade, your attention will
be attracted by a beautiful building on the opposite bank of the
Teplá River. It is the seat of muses – the municipal theatre. It was
built in the years 1884 – 1886 after it had been designed by famous
Viennese architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer in
whose studio projects for important buildings in lots of European
cities were made. The Festive Hall in the Grandhotel Pupp, too,
ranks as one of their achievements. The theatre building will fascinate you with its harmony of shapes of the roof, balcony, statues and
the stucco facade with a beautiful canopy above the entrance. Late
historism and baroque and rococo elements combine here in a picturesque way. Winged muses, little angels and ancient griffons are
the work of the Viennese sculptor Theodor Friedel.
And the enchanting interior! Stucco sensitively stressed with gilding, fantastic lamps in the shape of dancing couples, a big central
chandelier and beautiful wall and ceiling paintings. The whole
world admires the painter Gustav Klimt today and hardly anybody
knows that it was just him, the leading representative of Viennese
Art Nouveau, who decorated the Karlovy Vary theatre together with
his brother Ernst and his friend Franz Matsch. The biggest treasure
hidden in the theatre building is the allegorical curtain called The
Celebration of Poetry. It was created by the Klimt brothers and
Matsch too. While the upper part of the curtain is teeming with

Zakladatel lázeňského města Karel IV., král český a císař německý
a římský, poznal ve Francii a Itálii mnohá lázeňská místa a byl si
dobře vědom významu lázeňského městečka, které založil kolem
roku 1350. V roce 1368 si dal nad půvabným údolím zbudovat lovecký zámeček, kam zajížděl z nedalekého královského hradu Loket.
Do skály pod zámkem nechal u jednoho z léčivých pramenů vytesat
kamennou lavici, na níž sedával při koupelích zraněné nohy.
Slavného Otce zakladatele připomínají ve městě tři sochy. Na průčelí
budovy Městské knihovny v ulici I.P. Pavlova, pět minut cesty od
Mlýnské kolonády směrem k hotelu Thermal, najdeme nejstarší zpodobnění Karla IV. – cennou barokní plastiku od neznámého umělce
z roku 1739. Císař drží říšské jablko jako symbol moci a dvě knihy
symbolizující právní a statutární založení města. Na podstavci sochy
vidíme reliéf ztvárňující pověst o objevení karlovarských pramenů.
Za druhou, nejmenší sochou velkého státníka, se musíme vydat
nejvýš, až do parku na stezce Jeana de Carro, poblíž vily Lützow. Buď
sem sestoupíme z ulice Na Vyhlídce, nebo se vyšplháme stezkou
Jeana de Carro vlevo za chrámem Máří Magdalény. Na vysokém
sloupu uzříme malou sochu panovníka, ke které se váže poněkud
kontroverzní historka: Významný občan Karlových Varů, baron
August von Lützow, byl znám svými neustálými spory s radními. Byl
to on, kdo osadil na místě známém pod názvem Jelení skok sochu
kamzíka, údajně na protest s tradovanou pověstí o objevení Karlových
Varů díky skoku jelena do Vřídla. A byl to on, kdo jako reakci na
postavení tohoto pomníku Karla IV. nechal jako protipól postavit
poblíž své vily na vysoký podstavec sochu sedící kočky, navíc zadkem k tehdejší radnici. Do pusté stráně prý patří kočka, ne císař,
navíc ve špatných rozměrech. Jiné prameny ovšem praví, že sochu
Karla IV. dal se souhlasem města postavit v roce 1858 sám Lützow.
Parku Karla IV., přes řeku proti Grandhotelu Pupp, vévodí třetí,
tentokrát majestátní socha panovníka z roku 1955. Císař v dlouhém plášti s atributy své moci - korunou a žezlem, drží v levé ruce
model budovy – symbolu založení města. Autorem sochy je známý
český sochař Otakar Švec (1892-1955). Věřme, že zavřené Císařské
lázně, na které Karel IV. hledí, budou brzy zrekonstruovány.
Die Statuen des Kaiser Karls IV.
Der Gründer der Kurstadt Karl IV., der böhmische König und der
deutsche und römische Kaiser, lernte in Frankreich und Italien vie
le Kurorte kennen. Er war sich der Bedeutung des Kurstädtchens,
das er um das Jahr 1350 gründete, sehr wohl bewusst. Im Jahre
1368 ließ er sich über dem malerischen Tal ein Jagdschloss er-

bauen, das er von der nicht weit liegenden königlichen Burg
Elbogen (Loket) besuchte. In den Felsen unter dem Schloss ließ er
an einer der Heilquellen eine steinerne Bank aushauen, auf der er
saß und sein verletztes Bein badete.
An den berühmten Gründervater erinnern in der Stadt drei
Statuen. An der Fassade der Stadtbibliothek in der I. P. Pavlova
Straße, fünf Minuten zu Fuß von der Mühlbrunnkolonnade in
Richtung Hotel Thermal, findet man die älteste Abbildung von Karl
IV. – eine wertvolle Barockskulptur aus dem Jahre 1739 von einem
unbekannten Künstler. Der Kaiser hält den Reichsapfel als ein
Machtsymbol und zwei Bücher, die die rechtliche und satzungsmäßige Gründung der Stadt symbolisieren. Am Statuensockel
sieht man ein Relief, das die Sage über die Entdeckung der Karls
bader Quellen darstellt.
Zur Zweiten, der kleinsten Statue des großen Staatsmannes, muss
man sich höher begeben, bis in den Park am Jean de Carro Weg, in
der Nähe der Villa Lützow. Entweder kommt man hierher von der
Na Vyhlídce Straße, oder man geht den Jean de Carro Weg hinauf,
links hinter der Maria Magdalena Kirche. An einer hohen Säule
sieht man eine kleine Statue des Herrschers, die mit einer ein wenig
umstrittenen Geschichte verbunden ist. Ein bedeutender Bürger
von Karlsbad, Baron August von Lützow, war durch seine ständigen
Auseinandersetzungen mit den Ratsherren bekannt. Er war es, wer
an der Stelle, die unter der Bezeichnung der Hirschsprung bekannt
ist, eine Statue einer Gämse errichtete. Angeblich als Protest gegen
die überlieferte Sage über die Entdeckung von Karlsbad dank dem
Sprung eines Hirsches in den Sprudel. Sowohl war es er, wer als
Reaktion darauf, dass dieses Denkmal Karl IV. errichtet wurde, als
Gegenpol in der Nähe seiner Villa auf einen hohen Sockel eine
Statue einer sitzenden Katze errichten ließ, hinzu mit dem Po zu
dem damaligen Rathaus. In einen öden Hang gehört eine Katze,
nicht der Kaiser, noch dazu in falschen Ausmaßen. Andere Quellen
berichten jedoch, dass die Statue Karl IV. mit Einverständnis der
Stadt im Jahre 1858 selbst Lützow errichten ließ.
Im Park Karl IV., am anderen Flussufer gegenüber dem Grandhotel
Pupp, steht die Dritte, diesmal eine majestätische Statue des
Herrschers aus dem Jahre 1955. Der Kaiser im langen Mantel mit den
Attributen der Macht – mit der Krone und dem Zepter, in seiner
linken Hand hält er ein Modell eines Gebäudes – als ein Symbol der
Stadtgründung. Der Autor dieser Statue ist der bekannte tschechische
Bildhauer Otakar Švec (1892-1955). Man kann nur hoffen, dass das
geschlossene Kaiserbad, auf das Karl IV. sieht, bald renoviert wird.
Baroque sculpture by an unknown artist dating from 1739, can be
seen on the facade of the Municipal Library in I.P. Pavlova Street. It
is just a five-minute walk from the Mill Colonnade to it. The emperor is holding an imperial orb, a symbol of power, and two books
which symbolize the legal and statutory foundation of the town.
You can also see a relief depicting the legend about the discovery of
the Karlovy Vary springs on the pedestal.
If you want to see the smallest statue of the big statesman, you have
to go a place located higher, a park lying on Jean de Carro Path
near Villa Lützow. You can either descend here from Na Vyhlídce
Street or you have to climb Jean de Carro Path behind the Mary
Magdalene Church on the left. You will see a small statue of the
ruler on a high column. There is a rather controversial story connected with it: a prominent citizen of Karlovy Vary, Baron August
von Lützow, was famous for having constant conflicts with town
councillors. It was him who put up a statue of a chamois in the
place called Deer´s Jump, reputedly because he wanted to protest
against the legend about how Karlovy Vary had been discovered
when a deer had jumped into the Sprudel. And it was him who had
a high pedestal with a statue of a sitting cat erected in the neigh
bourhood of his villa. On top of it, the cat´s bottom was oriented
towards the town hall. It was Lützow´s response to the construction
of the above mentioned monument to Charles IV. In his opinion, it
was the cat, not the emperor that belongs on the wild hillside. In
addition to it, the emperor´s statue was made in a wrong scale.
However, other sources say that Lützow had the statue built after he
had got permission from the town council in 1858.
The third statue, this time an impressive one dating from 1955,
dominates Charles IV Park opposite the Grandhotel Pupp across
the river. The emperor in a long gown with the attributes of his
power – a crown and a sceptre – is holding a model of a building in
his left hand symbolizing so the foundation of the town. The statue
was made by a famous Czech sculptor Otakar Švec (1892-1955).
Let us hope that the closed up imperial spa Building which Charles
IV is facing will soon be renovated.
Statues of Emperor Charles IV
The founder of the spa town Charles IV, the king of Bohemia and
a German and Roman emperor, got to know lots of spa places in
France and Italy and was therefore perfectly aware of the importance
of the little spa town he had founded in about 1350. In 1368 he had
a hunting lodge built over the wonderful valley and used to go there
from his nearby royal castle Loket. He had a bank chiselled in the
rock near one of the mineral springs under the hunting lodge and
used to sit there when he bathed his sore feet in the curative water.
There are three statues remembering the famous Father Founder in
the town. The oldest representation of Charles IV – a precious

After the historic grounds of the factory producing the world-famous
Becherovka liqueur had been rebuilt, a small square called Becherplatz

Důraz na vzdělávání
Schwerpunkt auf die Fortbildung I Emphasis on education
Grandhotel Pupp patří k tradičním a významným zaměstnavatelům karlovarského regionu déle než 300 let. Vedení hotelu si uvědomuje, že hlavním aktivem a konkurenční výhodou jsou především kvalifikovaní a motivovaní zaměstnanci. Hotel proto
1.12. 2010 zahájil realizaci projektu „Rozvoj lidských zdrojů a inovace vzdělávání zaměstnanců v GRANDHOTELU PUPP Karlovy
Vary, a.s.“, který byl podpořen dotací z Evropského sociálního fondu. Vybrané špičkové firmy a lektoři školili zaměstnance v komunikačních a manažerských dovednostech, v práci na počítači a využití moderních ICT technologií. K tomuto účelu byla vybudována
nová multimediální učebna. Důraz byl rovněž kladen na výuku
a trénink cizích jazyků a ekologii. V rámci projektu byla zřízena
nová pozice trénink manažera, který se stará o kvalitu poskytovaných služeb a je poradcem pro obsluhující personál. Projekt byl
realizován po dobu 24 měsíců a zapojili se do něj všichni zaměstnanci hotelu. Věříme, že pocítíte profesionální péči našeho personálu a se službami Grandhotelu Pupp budete plně spokojeni.

Humanressourcen und Innovation der
Ausbildung vom Personal im GRANDHOTEL
PUPP Karlovy Vary, a.s.“. Das Projekt ist aus
dem Europäischen Sozialfonds finanziell unterstützt. Die Angestellten waren durch ausgewählte Firmen und Lektoren in Kommu
nikations- und Managerfähigkeiten, in den
Computer- und modernen ICT Technologien
geschult. Zu diesem Zweck wurde der neue
multimediale Lehrsaal errichtet. Zugleich
wurde auch viel Wert auf Unterricht und
Training der Fremdsprachen und Ekologie
gelegt. Innerhalb des Projektes entstand ein
neuer Platz vom Training Manager, der sich
um Qualität der Dienstleistungsversorgung
kümmert. Der Training Manager ist auch als
Berater für Bedienungspersonal tätig. Das
Projekt wurde innerhalb 24 Monate und mit
Teilnahme von allen Hotelangestellten realisiert. Wir glauben, dass Sie die profesionelle Betreuung erleben und
dass Sie mit den Dienstleistungen Grandhotels Pupp voll zufrieden
sein werden.
The Grandhotel Pupp is a traditional and important employer of
Karlovy Vary region for more than 300 years. The hotel management
knows that especially qualified and motivated employees represent the
most important hotel competitive advantage. That‘s why hotel
launched the project “Development of human resources and innova
tion of education in GRANDHOTEL PUPP Karlovy Vary, a.s.” in
December 2010. This project was supported by grants from the
European Social Fund. Selected top companies and lecturers trained
hotel employees in computing, communication and management
skills and in using of modern ICT technologies. A new multimedia
classroom was constructed for this purpose. Emphasis was also put on
the education of foreign languages and even ecology. The project required to create a new position of training manager who cares about
the quality of provided services and who is an advisor for the hotel
staff. The project was completed in 24 months and all hotel employees
took part in it. We hope you will feel the professional care of our staff

Příběh Honzíka
Honzík se narodil v červnu roku 2010. Pro jeho rodiče to byly
nejkrásnější chvíle v životě. Avšak po dlouhém a těžkém porodu
trvajícím 22 hodin nedopadl Honzík moc dobře. Byl dvakrát oživován a odvezen na dva týdny na dětskou JIP. Z vyprávění tatínka
vybíráme: „Nic jiného než úděs, strach a beznaděj jsem v sobě neměl. Ale náš Honzík je bojovník a právo na život si uhájil a vybojoval. Byly to těžké chvíle, ale když ho přestaly tlumit léky a poprvé se
na nás podíval, byl to ZÁZRAK. I přes jeho postižení je to naše
sluníčko, a proto se snažíme dělat vše, co je v našich silách, aby měl
co nejhodnotnější a spokojený život.“
Speciální pomůcky a terapie jeho stavu stojí nemalé peníze. Proto
se vedení Grandhotelu Pupp rozhodlo stát se patronem Honzíka
a jeho rodiče v nelehké situaci podpořit. Na letošním turnaji Pupp
Golf Cup byla během dražby vybrána úctyhodná částka. Tímto za
rodiče děkujeme všem účastníkům, jmenovitě pánům Karlu
Ryplovi, Miroslavu Eisovi, Andreyi Obozovovi, Gustavu Žaludkovi
a paní Simoně Sůvové.
The story of Honzík
Honzík was born in June 2010. It was the most beautiful time in the
life of his parents. However, the complicated, 22-hour long delivery
did not turn out well for Honzík. He had to be resuscitated twice
and then he spent two weeks in the ICU for children. We have
chosen the following from what his father told us: “I had nothing
but fright, fear and despair in me. But our Honzík is a fighter and
he won his fight for life. It was hard time but when he stopped being
on pills and looked at us for the first time, it was A MIRACLE. In
spite of his handicap he is the sun of our life and we are trying to
do our best to make his life as happy and satisfied as possible.”
Special aids and therapy for him cost lots of money. That was why
the management of the Grandhotel Pupp decided to become
Honzík´s patron and to support his parents in their difficult situation. A considerable sum of money was raised in an auction at this
year´s Pupp Golf Cup. On behalf of the parents we would like to
thank all participants, in particular to Karel Rypl, Miroslav Eis,
Andrey Obozov, Gustav Žaludko and Mrs. Simona Sůvová.

Die Geschichte von Hänschen
Hänschen wurde im Juni 2010 geboren. Für seine Eltern war es der
schönste Augenblick in ihrem Leben. Nach einer langen und schweren Geburt, die 22 Stunden dauerte, ging es Hänschen jedoch nicht
so gut. Er wurde zweimal wiederbelebt und für zwei Wochen zur
Intensivpflegestation für Kinder gebracht. Der Vater erzählt: „Ich
hatte nichts anderes als Entsetzen, Angst und Verzweiflung in mir.
Aber unser Hänschen ist ein Kämpfer und er hat das Recht auf Leben
behauptet und erkämpft. Es waren schwere Zeiten, aber als er nicht
mehr mit Medikamenten gedämpft war und er sah uns zum ersten
Mal an, war es EIN WUNDER. Trotz seiner Behinderung ist er unser
Schatz, deswegen bemühen wir uns alles zu tun, was in unseren
Kräften ist, damit er ein wertvolles und zufriedenes Leben hat.“
Die speziellen Hilfsmittel und die Therapie kosten viel Geld.
Deshalb entschied sich die Leitung vom Grandhotel Pupp Patron
vom Hänschen zu werden und seine Eltern in der schwierigen
