15. bál Festival - Tři Mušketýři
Odvážný hrabě d‘Artagnan a jeho tři přátelé
Athos, Portos a Aramis ovládli 23. ledna Slavnostní
sál a přilehlé prostory Grandhotelu Pupp. Opět
vyskočili do sedel, aby se bili za čest Francie
a srdce krásných žen a přivezli do Karlových Varů
první výraznou připomínku nadcházejícího
45. ročníku Mezinárodního filmového festivalu.
„Jeden za všechny a všichni za jednoho“ se neslo
sálem při bezpochyby nejatraktivnějším bále karlovarské plesové sezóny. Na kordy se však nebojovalo, protože atmosféra byla příliš přátelská pro
jakékoli souboje. Návštěvníci plesu se raději zvesela bavili, hodovali a diskutovali, jaký asi bude
letošní ročník MFF.
Vánoce a Silvestr v Grandhotelu Pupp
Týdenní program akcí, spojených s vánočními
svátky a příchodem nového roku, uspokojil svou
rozmanitostí každého. Slavnostní koncerty, setkání u vánočního stromu, tradiční štědrovečerní večeře, opera i jazzový koncert vytvořily v průběhu
svátků nenapodobitelnou atmosféru, díky které se
tolik hostů v tomto čase do Grandhotelu Pupp
vrací. Silvestrovský galavečer svým mottem
„Rytmy, které hýbou světem“ nenechal nikoho
v klidu. Tančilo se také při velkolepém ohňostroji
a poté ještě dlouho do prvního novoročního rána.

Das einwöchige Programm der Veranstaltungen anlässlich der Weihnachtsfeiertage und des neuen
Jahres stellte mit seiner Vielfalt jeden zufrieden.
Festkonzerte, ein Treffen am Weihnachtsbaum, das
traditionelle Heiligabendessen, eine Oper und ein
Jazzkonzert bildeten während der Feiertage eine unnachahmliche Atmosphäre, dank derer so viele Gäste
in dieser Zeit ins Grandhotel Pupp zurückkehren.
Der Silvestergalaabend mit seinem Motto „Rhythmen,
die die Welt bewegen“ ließ niemanden in Ruhe. Man
tanzte auch bei dem großartigen Feuerwerk und dann
noch lang in den ersten Neujahrsmorgen.

The one week’s programme of events connected with
Christmas and the arrival of the new year satisfied everyone through its variety. Gala concerts, meetings at the
Christmas tree, a traditional Christmas Eve dinner, an
opera and a jazz concert created a specific and inimitable atmosphere thanks to which so many guests keep
returning to the Grandhotel Pupp at this festive time.

“Rhythms Which Move the World“ did not keep calm
anyone. People danced during grand fireworks, too, and
then they continued until the first new year’s morning.

Der 15. Ball Festival - Drei Musketiere
Los Mistrovství světa
v basketbalu žen 2010
Na sklonku roku 2009 bylo v Grandhotelu Pupp
rozlosováno 16. mistrovství světa v basketbalu
žen. Bude se konat na přelomu září a října 2010
v České republice. Šestnáct nejlepších celků z celého světa bylo rozděleno do čtyř základních skupin, které se spolu utkají v Ostravě a Brně. České
hráčky narazí na Argentinu, Japonsko a Rusko.
Finálová část celého turnaje se pak odehraje
v Karlových Varech. Mistryně světa budeme znát
po finálovém souboji v KV Areně 3. října 2010.

der Frauen 2010
Der mutige Graf d‘Artagnan und seine drei
Freunde Athos, Portos und Aramis beherrschten
am 23. Januar den Festsaal und die anliegenden
Räumlichkeiten von Grandhotel Pupp. Sie sprangen wieder in die Sättel, um für die Ehre Frank
reichs und die Herzen der schönen Frauen zu
kämpfen. Sie brachten nach Karlsbad die erste
deutliche Erinnerung an den kommenden 45. Jahr
gang des Internationalen Filmfestivals. „Einer für
alle und alle für einen“ klang durch den Saal im
Verlauf des ohne Zweifel attraktivsten Balls der
Karlsbader Ballsaison. Auf Kriegsfuß stand man
aber nicht, weil die Atmosphäre zu freundlich für
irgendwelche Duelle war. Die Ballbesucher amüsierten sich, speisten und diskutierten, wie wohl
der diesjährige Jahrgang des IFF aussehen wird.
Am Ende des Jahres 2009 wurde im Grandhotel
Pupp die 16. Basketballweltmeisterschaft der
Frauen ausgelost. Sie wird Ende September und
Anfang Oktober 2010 in der Tschechischen
Republik stattfinden. Die Besten sechszehn
Mannschaften aus der ganzen Welt wurden in vier
Gruppen aufgeteilt, die sich in Ostrava und Brno
auseinandersetzen. Die tschechischen Spielerinnen
begegnen Argentinien, Japan und Russland. Das
Turnierfinale findet dann in Karlsbad statt. Die
Weltmeisterinnen wird man nach dem Finale in
der KV Arena am 3. Oktober 2010 kennen.
The World Championship in
Basketball of Women 2010
A draw for the 16th world championship in basketball of women was made in the Grandhotel
Pupp at the end of the year 2009. It will be held
in the Czech Republic at the turn of September
and October 2010. Sixteen best teams from the
whole world were divided into four groups which
will meet in Ostrava and Brno. Czech basketball
players will fight with Argentina, Japan and
Russia. The finals of the whole tournament will
be played in Karlovy Vary. We will know the
world champions after the finals in the KV Arena
on the 3rd October 2010.
15th Ball Festival - Three Musketeers
Courageous Count d´Artagnan and his three friends Athos, Portos and Aramis occupied the Festive
Hall and other rooms in the Grandhotel Pupp on
23rd January. They mounted their horses again to
fight for the good name of France and hearts of
beautiful women and brought the first reminder of
the forthcoming 45th International Film Festival to
Karlovy Vary. “All for one, one for all“ was heard
in the hall during the undoubtedly most attractive
ball of the Karlovy Vary ball season. However, nobody drew swords as the atmosphere was friendly.
Visitors to the ball rather entertained themselves,
wined and dined and spoke about what this year’s
International Film Festival would be like.

Der Vertreter des Projektes www.filmovamista.cz
Herr Peter Cingel besuchte im Rahmen seines
einmaligen Projektes das Grandhotel Pupp. Er
macht derzeitige Aufnahmen des Hotels und vergleicht sie mit den Filmaufnahmen. Filme, in denen das Grandhotel Pupp eine Rolle spielte, gibt
es bereits Dutzende. Aus der Reportage entstanden deshalb Fotografien und eine umfangreiche
Übersicht über das Filmgeschehen in der gesamten Hotelgeschichte. Zu den bisher letzten
Dreharbeiten im Grandhotel Pupp gehören die
Aufnahmen für die Fernsehserie The Philanthropist,
erstaufgeführt im Jahre 2009.

dání valentýnského přáníčka. Chvíle strávené
v kavárně u svátečního dezertu nazvaného
Valentýnské srdce nebo v Grandrestaurantu nad
valentýnským menu se společně s přáním samotným staly pro mnohé nezapomenutelnými
stejně jako valentýnská legenda. Další příležitostí pro krásné přání bude Svátek matek o druhé
květnové neděli.

The Festive Hall plays host to about twenty balls
every year. The beautiful hall gives a touch of
glamour and nobility to every ball. The Ball
Festival is usually the top of the season, however,
the Best Ball and a number of school leavers´balls
do not lag behind. School leavers´balls with their
informal atmosphere are popular with both students and their parents and relatives. For them,
they mark the beginning of their children’s adult
hood. And to enter adulthood in the unique atmosphere of the Festive Hall – it must influence
everyone positively in all his future life.

Viele Gäste und Besucher ließen sich die romantische Atmosphäre von Grandhotel Pupp für die
Übergabe vom Valentinswunsch nicht entgehen.

Lots of guests and visitors did not miss the opportunity to hand over their valentines in the romantic atmosphere of the Grandhotel Pupp. Whiles
spent in the café over a dessert called Valentine
Heart or over a Valentine menu in the
Grandrestaurant and the valentine itself became
as unforgettable as the legend of St. Valentine.
Another similar opportunity will come on
Mother’s Day, i.e. on the second Sunday in May.

tenbällen. Die Letztgenannten sind dank ihrern informellen Atmosphäre nicht nur bei den Studenten,
sondern auch bei den Eltern und den Verwandten
beliebt, für die es ein Signal ist, dass ihre Nach
kommen erwachsen werden. Und Erwachsenwerden
in dieser einmaligen Atmosphäre des Festsaales –
das muss jeden für das ganze Leben positiv beeinflussen.

A representative of the unique project www.filmovamista.cz Peter Cingel visited the Grandhotel
Pupp to take some shots of the present hotel and
compare them with those which appeared in various films. There are tens of films in which the
Grandhotel Pupp has had a part. The report provided material for photographs and a detailed
survey of film activities in the history of the hotel.
The latest shots taken in the Grandhotel Pupp will
appear in the TV series The Philanthropist whose
premiere was in the year 2009.
Plesy a bály v Grandhotelu Pupp
Slavnostní sál každým rokem hostí na dvě desítky
bálů. Nádherný sál dodá každému plesu lesk
a nádech noblesy. Bál Festival je svou výpravou
zpravidla vrcholem sezóny, pozadu však nezůstávají ani Best Bál a řada plesů maturitních. Ty poslední jsou díky své neformální atmosféře oblíbe-

Proč se světový koktejlový
den slaví 13. května? Ze 13.
května roku 1806 totiž pochází první písemná zmínka
o míchaném nápoji, koktejlu. V americkém časopise The
Balance se toho dne objevila
jeho definice: „Koktejl, toť nápoj posilující, z lihovin
druhu všelikého, cukru, vody a bitteru složený, jemuž se
lidově říká sling.“ Bohatý výběr koktejlů vám nabízí tři
bary v Grandhotelu Pupp - Club Malá dvorana, Becher´s
Bar a Becher´s Bar Rendez-vous. Zkušený tým barmanů
vám doporučí koktejl podle vašeho rozpoložení, příležitosti či chuti experimentovat. Mladé barmany si sami
vychováváme a ti sklízejí úspěchy i na soutěžním poli.
Například S. Kallusová a M. Kovacsiková získaly první
a druhé místo v barmanské soutěži Finlandia Cup 2009.
Rádi byste vyzkoušeli vítězný drink Finský ohnivák? Do
vychlazené koktejlové sklenky nalejte 1 cl Monin Spicy
sirupu. Ostatní ingredience (3 cl Finské vodky Lime, 2
cl Martini Rosato, 1 cl pomerančového freshe a 3 cl
grepového freshe) protřepejte v shakeru a přelijte jím sirup ve sklence. Na závěr dekorujete okraj sklenice kouskem mozzarelly a baby rajčátkem. Na zdraví!
Warum feiert man den Weltcocktailtag gerade am 13. Mai?
Von dem 13. Mai des Jahres 1806 stammt nämlich die erste
schriftliche Erwähnung über ein Mischgetränk, einem
Cocktail. In der amerikanischen Zeitschrift The Balance
erschien an diesem Tag seine Definition: „Der Cocktail ist
ein stärkendes Getränk, das aus einem beliebigen Alkohol,
Zucker, Wasser und Bitter zusammengesetzt ist, und welches man umgangssprachlich Sling nennt.“ Eine große

Why is held the World Cocktail Day every May
13th? The term “Cocktail“ was first coined on
May 13th in 1806. The following definition was

victorious drink “Finnish Firebird“? Pour 1 cl of
Monin Spicy syrup into a cooled cocktail glass.
Shake the other ingredients – 3 cl of Finnish
vodka Lime, 2 cl of Martini Rosato. 1 cl of orange fresh and 3 cl of grapefruit fresh in a shaker
and pour them on the syrup in the glass. Finally
decorate the rim of the glass with a piece of
mozzarella and a baby tomato. Cheers!

… 16. února 2010 uplynulo právě 200 let od
úmrtí prvního z rodu Puppů, Johanna Georga
Puppa? Narodil se roku 1734 a do Karlových Varů
přišel v roce 1760, ještě jako cukrář Pop hraběte
Chotka. Přijal světáčtější podobu svého jména, koupil
Český sál a zasadil 12 řad lip, jimž se dalších 150 let
říkalo Puppovy aleje. Položil tak základní kámen
úspěchu dalších generací Puppů. Zemřel ve věku
76 let a zanechal po sobě dva syny, kteří ve vzkvétajícím rodinném podniku pokračovali.

der Erste aus dem Pupp Geschlecht, Johann
Georg Pupp, verstorben ist? Er wurde im Jahre
1734 geboren und nach Karlsbad kam er im Jahre
1760, noch als Konditor Pop des Grafen Chotek. Er
nahm eine festlichere Form seines Namens an, er
kaufte den Böhmischen Saal und pflanzte 12 Reihen
Linden, die man die nächsten 150 Jahre die Puppische
Allee nannte. Er legte somit den Grundstein des
Erfolges der weiteren Pupp Generationen. Er starb im
Alter von 76 Jahren und hinterließ zwei Söhne, die
den aufblühenden Familienbetrieb fortführten.

Johann Georg Pupp on the 16th February 2010?
He was born in 1734 and came to Karlovy Vary in
1760. In those days his name was Pop and he was
Count Chotek´s confectioner. He started using
a smarter form of his name, bought the Bohemian
Hall and planted twelve lines of linden trees which
were called Pupp Avenue for the next 150 years.
He laid so a corner stone of the success of further
generations of the Pupps. He died at the age of
76 years leaving behind two sons who continued
the flourishing family firm.

Dubnové menu vyžaduje krátký teoretický úvod
k tomu, aby člověk pochopil, proč je někdy nezbytné spojit chutě koňaku a čokolády. Henessy V.S.O.P.
se mísí ze 60 eaux-de-vie z celé oblasti Cognac.
Výsledkem je nápoj jantarové barvy, měkké ovocné
vůně se dřevem, měkce sametové alkoholové dřevité ovocné chuti, u kterého se s věkem začínají projevovat tóny dřeva, vanilky a lékořice. Čokoláda
Valrhona pochází také z Francie, z vinařské oblasti
v okolí Lyonu. Patří, stejně jako Hennessy u koňaků,
mezi nejvybranější čokolády na světě. Jemnost až
hedvábnost obou chutí vytváří harmonické pouto,
využité právě v tomto speciálně sestaveném menu.

Das Aprilmenü benötigt eine kurze theoretische
Einleitung dazu, damit man begreift, warum es manchmal nötig ist, den Geschmack von Cognac und
Schokolade zu verbinden. Henessy V.S.O.P. mischt man
aus 60 eaux-de-vie aus dem gesamten Cognac Gebiet.
Das Ergebnis ist ein Getränk von Bernsteinfarbe, von
weichem Obst- und Holzduft, von feinem samtenem
Alkohol, Holz-, Obstgeschmack, bei dem sich mit der
Zeit die Töne von Holz, Vanille und Lakritz zeigen. Die
Schokolade Valrhona kommt auch aus Frankreich, aus
dem Weingebiet in der Umgebung von Lyon. Sie gehört,
genauso wie Hennessy bei den Cognacs, zu den vornehm
sten Schokoladen der Welt. Die Feinheit bis Seidigkeit
beider Geschmäcke bildet ein harmonisches Paar, eben
in diesem einzigartig zusammengestellten Menü genutzt.

from the whole region of Cognac. The result is an
amber beverage with soft fruit smell mixed with the
smell of wood which tastes after wood and fruit. As
it grows old, you can taste vanilla and liquorice in it.
Valrhona chocolate comes from France too, from
a wine-growing region in the neighbourhood of
Lyon. It ranks, as well as Hennessy in the cognac
family, among the most select sorts of chocolate in
the world. The delicacy, almost silkiness of both
tastes creates a harmonious combination which can
be found in this especially composed menu.

Egypťané obětovali chřest bohům, staří Řekové
a Římané jej měli v oblibě pro jeho afrodiziakální
účinky. Hippokrates používal chřest pro čištění
organismu, Julius César ho rád jídal vařený. Do
Evropy se chřest dostal přes Španělsko, ve Francii
se záhy stal zeleninou králů. V 19. století byl pro
svou podobu a pro pověst afrodiziaka zakázán
v penzionech pro mladé dívky, které vedly řádové
sestry. Ty se totiž obávaly toho, jaké představy by
mohl chřest u dívek vyvolat. Chřest je nejen ozdobou každé tabule, ať již ve formě samostatného
chodu, přílohy, polévky či salátu, je také významným prvkem zdravé výživy. Obsahuje velké množství vody, bílkoviny, vlákninu i minerály a hodně
málo tuků i sacharidů. Sestavené menu je tedy
nejen delikatesní, je také velmi šetrné k vaší linii
a prospěšné vaší kondici.

Die Ägypter opferten den Spargel den Göttern, die alten
Griechen und Römer hatten ihn für seine Wirkung als
Aphrodisiakum gern. Hippokrates nutzte den Spargel für
die Körperreinigung, Julius César aß ihn gern gekocht.
Nach Europa kam der Spargel über Spanien, in
Frankreich wurde er bald zum Gemüse der Könige. Im
19. Jahrhundert wurde er für seine Form und für seinen
Ruf als Aphrodisiakum in den Pensionen für junge
Mädchen, die die Ordensschwestern führten, verboten.
Sie befürchteten nämlich, welche Vorstellungen der
Spargel bei den Mädchen auslösen könnte. Der Spargel
ist nicht nur zum Schmuckstück jeder Tafel, ob in Form
eines selbstständigen Gangs, Beilagen, Suppen oder
Salate, sondern er ist auch ein bedeutender Teil der gesunden Ernährung. Er beinhaltet eine große Menge an
Wasser, Eiweiß, Ballaststoffe und Minerale und sehr
wenig Fett sowie Sacharide. Das zusammengestellte
Menü ist also sowohl köstlich, als auch sehr schonend
zu Ihrer Linie und wohltuend für Ihre Kondition.

The Egyptians sacrificed asparagus to gods, ancient
Greeks and Romans loved it because of its aphrodisiac effect. Hippocrates used asparagus to clean
his organism and Julius Caesar loved eating it cooked.
Asparagus got to Europe via Spain to become the
favourite vegetable of kings in France. In the 19th
century it was forbidden in finishing schools for
young girls led by nuns owing to its shape and reputation of an aphrodisiac. The nuns were afraid
of associations asparagus could evoke in them.
Asparagus is not only a decoration of each table;
no matter if it was in the form of a single course,
trimming, soup or salad, it is also an important part
of healthy diet. It contains a big amount of water,
proteins, fibre and minerals and has only little fat
and few carbohydrates. The composed menu is
therefore not only delicate; it does not endanger
your waistline and is beneficial to your condition.

Pupp bychom Vám rádi nabídli zejména to druhé.
Jedním dechem však dodáváme, že velikonoční půst
je před hodováním v Grandrestaurantu prakticky nezbytný. S pokorou a ctí k tradicím jsme pro Vás připravili menu, které vedle tradičních velikonočních
specialit hojně využívá vše čerstvé - byliny, ranou
zeleninku a jarní saláty.
Typické pro velikonoční hodování jsou variace masa
- dušeného, pečeného i sekaného v kombinaci se
zeleninou, nádivkami, vždy využívající kopřivy, libeček a další zelené bylinky. Sváteční chody připravené
z tradičního velikonočního jehněčího, kůzlečího či
telecího masa tak doprovázejí vždy křehké a šťavnaté
zelené přílohy, připravené se starostlivou péčí a za
použití čerstvých produktů výhradně BIO kvality.

Aus der gastronomischen Sicht treffen sich zu
Ostern zwei Extreme: das Fasten und der
Überfluss. Im Grandhotel Pupp möchten wir
Ihnen vor allem das Zweite anbieten. In einem
Atemzug muss man aber dazu sagen, dass das
Osterfasten vor dem Speisen im Grandrestaurant
praktisch notwendig ist. Mit Demut und mit Ehre
zu den Traditionen bereitet man für Sie ein Menü,
das neben den traditionellen Osterspezialitäten im
Maße alles Frische nutzt – die Kräuter, das
Frühgemüse und die Frühlingssalate.
Typisch für das Osterspeisen sind die Fleischkom
binationen – von dem Gedünsteten, dem
Gebratenen sowie dem Gehackten in Kombination
mit dem Gemüse, den Füllen, immer mit
Brennnesseln, dem Liebstöckel und weiteren grünen Kräutern. Die Festmahle, vorbereitet aus dem
für Ostern traditionellen Lamm-, Zicklein- oder
Kalbsfleisch, serviert man so mit immer zarten
und saftigen grünen Beilagen, mit Sorgfalt zubereitet und aus ausschließlich frischen Produkten
der BIO Qualität.

From the point of view of gastronomy two extremes
meet at Easter: the fast and abundance. We would like
to offer you especially the second of the two possibilities in the Grandhotel Pupp. However, we have to
add in the same breath that the Easter fast is almost
necessary before having a meal in the Grandhotel
Pupp. Following traditions we have prepared a menu
for you which, apart from traditional Easter specialities, is composed of everything that is fresh – herbs,
early vegetables and different sorts of lettuce.
Combinations of meat – braised, roasted or mince –
with vegetables and stuffing are typical of Easter meals.
Nettles, lovage and other green herbs are always used
in them. Festive meals cooked from traditional Easter
lamb, kid or veal are always complemented with crisp
and juice vegetables prepared from fresh products in
BIO quality.

Rotary Club Karlovy Vary
Světoznámé lázně Karlovy Vary patřily mezi první
místa v Československu, kde byl již ve 20. letech
20. stol. založen Rotary Club. Klub s 21 zakládajícími členy byl inaugurován v prosinci 1926 a zařazen do tehdejšího distriktu Rotary International
č. 66. V květnu 1930 se zde dokonce konala
III. konference 66. distriktu za účasti 300 rotariánů. V historii postihlo karlovarský klub dvojí násilné přerušení činnosti totalitními režimy. Krátce po
pádu komunismu byla činnost RC Karlovy Vary za
pomoci klubů Bad Gastein, Weiden, Windsor
a Eton 16. září 1991 znovu obnovena. V současnosti má klub 36 členů. Během 20 let podpořil
klub řadu projektů - morálně, organizačně, pracovně a finančně. Jmenujme materiální pomoc
Ústavu pro mentálně postiženou mládež
v Radošově u Karlových Varů a soustavnou pomoc léčebně dlouhodobě nemocných v Nejdku.
V rámci humanitárních projektů dosud RC
Karlovy Vary shromáždil společně s partnerskými
kluby částku přes 2,7 mil. Kč. Rotary International
je celosvětovou organizací sdružující osobnosti
z podnikatelských a odborných kruhů, které poskytují humanitární služby a pomoc svým spoluobčanům a prosazují ve všech oblastech vysoké etické
zásady. Do její činnosti je zapojeno 1,2 milionu lidí, organizovaných ve 33 000 klubech, působících
prakticky ve všech zemích světa. První Rotary
Club byl založen v Chicagu ve státě Illinois v USA
23. února 1905.

wir materielle Hilfe der Anstalt für geistig behinderte Jugendliche in Radošov bei Karlsbad und
die andauernde Hilfe dem Sanatorium für
Langzeitkranke in Nejdek. Im Rahmen der humanitären Projekte sammelte der RC Karlsbad zusammen mit den Partnerklubs einen Betrag über
2,7 Mio. Kronen ein. Rotary International ist eine
weltweite Organisation, die Persönlichkeiten aus
den Unternehmer- und Fachkreisen vereint, die
humanitäre Dienstleistungen und Hilfe ihren
Mitbürgern leisten und setzen in allen Bereichen
hohe ethische Grundsätze durch. An ihren
Aktivitäten sind 1,2 Millionen Leute beteiligt, die
in 33 000 Klubs organisiert sind, die praktisch in
allen Ländern der Welt wirken. Der erste Rotary
Club wurde in Chicago im Staat Illinois in den
USA am 23. Februar 1905 gegründet.
RC Karlsbad, District 2240 hat seinen Sitz im
Grandhotel Pupp seit dem Jahre 1991. Er trifft sich
jeden Montag ab 19 Uhr im Beethoven Salon.

Club was established in Chicago, Illinois, the U.S.A.

Rotary Club Karlsbad
Der weltberühmte Kurort Karlsbad gehörte zu
den ersten Städten in der Tschechoslowakei, wo
bereits in den 20er Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts
ein Rotary Club gegründet wurde. Der Klub mit
21 Gründungsmitgliedern wurde im Dezember
1926 inauguriert und in den damaligen Distrikt
von Rotary International Nr. 66 eingereiht. Im

Lymfatický (mízní) systém je významnou součástí
našeho imunitního systému. Buňky lymfatického
systému pomáhají při zneškodňování bakterií, virů a toxických látek, které se dostávají do těla potravou, vzduchem, pokožkou, nebo vznikají jako
odpady metabolismu a jsou vyloučeny pomocí
mízních cév a uzlin. Pokud máme nedostatek pohybu, ochablé svaly či jednostrannou zátěž, dochází k nedostatečnému odvádění škodlivin z těla.
Manuální lymfodrenáž je specifická hmatová technika, při níž je prováděn mírný tlak na kůži
a v podkoží (nikoliv na svalech, vazech a šlachách) bez použití olejů či masážních emulzí.
Ošetřovaný nemá cítit žádnou bolest. Masáž pomáhá usnadnit proudění toku lymfy nesoucí nahromaděné odpadní látky v tkáních a kloubech.
Tím pomáhá zmírnit otoky, bolest svalů, krevních
výronů, zbavuje nás pocitu únavy a „těžkých nohou“. Napomáhá organismu aktivovat vlastní
obranný systém, podporuje správnou činnost
hluboko uložených orgánů. Je výborná jako prevence proti nádorovým onemocněním. Protože
tato terapie zvyšuje kondici, je vhodná i pro sportovce. Lymfodrenáž nachází uplatnění i v kosmetice, zejména při ošetření celulitidy. Je účinná při
migrénách, akné, při otocích v obličeji i jako prevence proti tvorbě vrásek.
Před vlastní masáží je třeba odložit všechny šperky, doporučuje se vypít o půl litru tekutin více než
obvykle a zbytek dne trávit v klidu.

Das lymphatische System ist ein wichtiger
Bestandteil unseres Immunsystems. Die Zellen des
Lymphsystems verhelfen die Bakterien, die Viren
und die Giftstoffe zu zerstören, die in den Körper
durch die Nahrung, die Luft und die Oberhaut
kommen, oder die als Stoffwechselabfälle entstehen und die durch die Lymphgefäße und
Lymphknoten ausgestoßen werden. Falls man nicht
genug Bewegung, schlaffe Muskeln oder einseitige
Belastung hat, kommt es zum mangelnden
Schadstoffausstoß aus dem Körper. Die manuelle
Lymphdrainage ist eine charakteristische Tasttechnik,
bei der ein geringer Druck auf die Oberhaut und in
der Unterhaut ausgeübt wird (nicht auf die Muskeln,
die Bänder und die Sehnen) ohne die Massageöle
oder Massageemulsion zu benutzen. Der Klient soll
keinen Schmerz spüren. Die Massage verbessert die
Strömung des Lymphflusses, der die angesammelten Abfallstoffe in den Geweben und in den
Gelenken trägt. Damit verhilft sie die Schwellungen,
die Muskelschmerzen und die Blutergüsse zu lindern, sie befreit uns von der Müdigkeit und dem
„Gefühl der schweren Beine“. Sie verhilft dem
Organismus das eigene Abwehrsystem zu aktivieren, sie stützt die fehlerlose Funktion der tief gelegenen Organe. Sie ist dient als ausgezeichnete
Vorbeugung gegen Tumorerkrankungen. Weil diese
Therapie die Kondition verbessert, ist sie auch für
Sportler geeignet. Die Lymphdrainagen finden
Betätigung auch in der Kosmetik, vor allem bei der
Behandlung von Cellulitis. Sie ist wirkungsvoll bei
Migränen, Akne, bei Anschwellungen im Gesicht,
sowie bei der Vorbeugung von Faltenbildung. Vor
der eigenen Massage muss man jeglichen Schmuck
abnehmen, man empfiehlt einen halben Liter
Flüssigkeit mehr als gewöhnlich zu trinken und den
Rest des Tages in Ruhe zu verbringen.

The Lymphatic Massage
The lymphatic system is an important part of our immune system. The cells of the lymphatic system help to
kill bacteria and viruses and neutralize toxic substances
which get into the body with food, the air or through
skin or which come into being as waste of metabolism.
They are removed from the body by means of lymphatic nodes and vessels. If we do not have enough exercise, if our muscles are flabby or the exercise is singlesided, harmful substances are not removed from our
bodies sufficiently. The manual lymphatic drainage is
a specific technique of light pressing and gentle, rhythmic strokes. The masseur develops a gentle pressure
on skin and in subcutis (not in muscles, ligaments or
tendons) without using any oils or massage emulsions.
The patient should not feel any pain. The massage
makes the flow of the lymph easier. The lymph moves
out metabolic waste products from tissues and joints
and helps to reduce swellings, pain in muscles and
haemorrhage, removes fatigue and the feeling of “heavy feet“. It helps the organism to activate its immune
system and to support the correct function of organs
lying deep in the body. It is excellent as a sort of prevention of tumoral diseases. As this therapy improves
condition, it is also suitable for sportsmen. The lymphatic drainage is used in cosmetics, too, especially in
cellulite treatment. It helps when patients suffer from
migraine, acne, swellings in the face and also as prevention of wrinkles. Before the massage, the patient
has to take off all jewels and he should also drink half
a litre of liquid more than usual. He should give up all
activities after the massage.

Jednou z nejzářivějších hvězd posledního ročníku
Mezinárodního filmového festivalu byl bezpochyby
herec Antonio Banderas. Rodák ze španělské Malagy
vstoupil na filmová plátna v roce 1982, kdy si ho
oblíbil režisér Pedro Almodóvar a postupně jej obsadil
do pěti svých filmů. Zejména poslední Almodóvarův
film Spoutej mě (Atame) z roku 1990 otevřel
Banderasovi dveře do Hollywoodu. Přestože neuměl
anglicky a dialogy se učil foneticky, získal díky svému
smyslnému latinskému vzhledu pověst jednoho z nejatraktivnějších hollywoodských herců. Jeho hvězda
začala strmě stoupat po filmu Philadelphia (1993),
kde byl partnerem Tomu Hanksovi. Svou první hlavní
roli získal ve filmu Desperado (1995), kde ztvárnil El
Mariachiho, kdysi nejlepšího zpěváka a kytaristu na
mexicko-americké hranici. Od té doby hrál v mnoha
filmových hitech, z nichž mezi ty nejvěhlasnější patří
Čtyři pokoje (Four Rooms), Evita, Zorro: tajemná tvář
(The Mask of Zorro) či Frida.
Na festival přijel jako režisér a přivezl svou romanci
Letní déšť. Kdekoliv se však ocitl, budil pozornost
zejména u dámského publika jako ohnivý Desperado
či Zorro. V Grandrestaurantu se zamiloval do typicky českého jídla kachny se zelím a z Karlových Varů
si odvezl Cenu prezidenta MFF. Pobyt v Grandhotelu
Pupp zanechal v jeho mysli jen příjemné a pozitivní
dojmy, jak svědčí i jeho zápis v knize hostů.

Einer der glänzendsten Stars des letzten Internationalen
Filmfestivals war ohne Zweifel der Schauspieler
Antonio Banderas. Der gebürtige Spanier aus Malaga
trat auf die Leinwand im Jahre 1982, als sich ihn der
Regisseur Pedro Almodóvar lieb gewann und nach
und nach gab er ihm eine Rolle in fünf seiner Filme.
Vor allem der letzte Film von Almodóvar: Fessle mich
(Atame) aus dem Jahre 1990 öffnete Banderas die
Tür nach Hollywood. Obwohl er nicht englisch
konnte und die Dialoge lernte er phonetisch, gewann
er dank seinem sinnlichen Latino Look den Ruf eines
der attraktivsten Hollywoodschauspieler. Sein Stern
begann steil nach dem Film Philadelphia (1993) zu
steigen, als er den Partner von Tom Hanks darstellte.
Seine erste Hauptrolle bekam er im Film Desperado
(1995), als El Mariachiho, der eins der beste Sänger
und Gitarrenspieler auf der mexikanisch-amerikanischen Grenze war. Seit dem spielte er in vielen
Filmhits, von denen zu den bekanntesten Four
Rooms, Evita, Zorro: Die Maske des Zorro (The
Mask of Zorro) oder Frida gehören.
Auf das Festival kam er als Regisseur und brachte seine
Romanze Sommerregen mit. Überall wo er auftauchte,
erweckte er Aufmerksamkeit, vor allem bei dem
Damenpublikum als feuriger Desperado oder Zorro.
Im Grandrestaurant verliebte er sich in das typisch
böhmische Gericht Ente mit Kraut und aus Karlsbad
brachte er sich den Preis des IFF-Präsidenten mit. Der
Aufenthalt im Grandhotel Pupp hinterließ in seinen
Gedanken nur angenehme und positive Eindrücke,
was auch sein Eintrag ins Gästebuch belegt:

One of the brightest stars of the last International
Film Festival was without doubt the actor Antonio
Banderas. A native of Spanish Malaga entered the
film screen in 1982 when the director Pedro
Almodóvar discovered his talent and cast him gradually in five of his films. Especially the last
Almodóvar´s film Atame from the year 1990
opened Banderas the door to Hollywood. Although
he could not speak English and learnt his dialogues
phonetically, he gained a reputation of one of the
most attractive actors in Hollywood owing to his
sensual Latin appearance. His star started rising
steeply after the film Philadelphia (1993) where he
played with Tom Hanks. His first main part was that
in the film Desperado (1995) where he played El
Mariachi, once the best singer and guitarist on the
Mexican and American border. He has played in lots
of film hits since that time, the best of them being
Four Rooms, Evita, The Mask of Zorro or Frida.
He came to the festival as a director and brought his
romance Summer Rain. Wherever he appeared, he
attracted attention of prevailingly women’s audience
thanks to his parts of fiery Desperado or Zorro.
He fell in love with a typically Czech meal – duck
and cabbage – in the Grandrestaurant and took back
home the Prize of the President of the IFF. The stay
in the Grandhotel Pupp left only pleasant and positive impressions on his mind as his entry in the
book of guests proves:

The Olympic champion, a three-time world champion and a five-time European champion, has returned after a four-year-long break to take part in
top figure skating contests including the Olympic
Games in Vancouver. Apart from the contests,
Evgeni Plushenko gives exhibition performances.
They are unforgettable, witty and full of energy
and people remember them a long time.
The figure skating show Ice Olympic Tour 2010 is
filled with brilliant skill and emotions. Plushenko
uses them in huge waves during his breathtaking

Goethovy obrázky a básně
a Beethovenův koncert
Je málo známé, že s Grandhotelem Pupp, resp.
s jeho předchůdci Saským a Českým sálem a s Alejí
mají souvislost některá malířská a básnická díla
německých klasiků. V roce 1808 si básník a výmarský všeuměl Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
(1749-1832) namaloval obrázek Českého
a Saského sálu od Keglevičova kříže. Tato mimořádně zdařilá lavírovaná kresba je dnes uložena ve
sbírkách Goethova památníku ve Výmaru. V témže
roce Goethe namaloval také lavírovanou vedutu
Puppovské aleje. Rok předtím, tedy v roce 1807,
Goethe napsal šestiverší, jež dokonale vyjadřovalo
jeho lásku a obdiv ke Karlovým Varům:

co mi odsud vniklo do žil,
co jsem blaha přijal vděčně,
moh´ bych líčit nekonečně.
Stejný dík nechť poví,
co tu byl již, i ti noví.
chtěl koupit a trvale se v Karlových Varech usadit,
z tohoto záměru však z neznámých důvodů sešlo.
Goethova přítelkyně Elise von der Recke se k záměru vyjádřila v dopise 25. července 1807 takto:
Goethovi se vůbec nedivím, neboť Karlovy Vary
snesou srovnání i se Salcburkem, Tyrolskem, Itálií
a se Švýcarskem.
V roce 1811 vydal Theodor Körner (1791-1813),
mladý poeta, vášnivý bojovník proti tyranu
Napoleonovi a častý host Karlových Varů, knižní
sbírku třiadvaceti lyrických básní oslavujících vřídelní město a jeho okolí. Jedna z nich vzletnými
verši opěvuje něžné kouzlo tance v Saském sále.
Báseň otiskl ve svém karlovarském průvodci z roku 1817 Franz Sartori.
Velkou slávu zažily Český a Saský sál 3. července
1812, kdy si je prohlédl sám rakouský císař František I.
v doprovodu své dcery Marie Louisy, francouzské
císařovny. Není třeba dodávat, že vítání nejurozenějších hostů bylo v sálech velkolepé. Večer se na počest císaře konal slavnostní průvod 1500 horníků
z báňských měst karlovarského okolí.
Netrvalo dlouho a koncertní hala Českého sálu
hostila jednu z největších osobností světových
hudebních dějin. Mimořádným svátkem se pro
Český sál a pro karlovarské hudbymilovné publikum stal 6. srpen 1812, kdy tu odehrál benefiční
koncert pro obyvatele vyhořelého lázeňské města
Baden u Vídně právě na léčení dlící génius
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Vystoupil
s italským houslistou Giovannim Battistou
Polledrem z Turína. Beethoven a Polledro zahráli
Velkou sonátu a několik „volných fantazií“. Výše
vstupného byla dobrovolná. Výnos koncertu činil
958 zlatých, což ovšem zdaleka nebylo tolik, kolik Beethoven očekával. Zklamaný Mistr napsal
12. srpna 1812 svému mecenáši arcivévodovi
Rudolfovi, že v Karlových Varech odehrál chudý
koncert pro chudé. Během svého pobytu
v Karlových Varech bydlel Beethoven v domě
Boží oko, na němž je dnes pamětní deska.

Am 14. August 1818 schrieb Goethe im Hause
Zum goldenen Brunnen, das neben dem
Sächsischen Saal stand, eine Ode an die
Gesangkunst der berühmten italienischen Sängerin
Angelica Catalani (1782-1849), verheirateter
Valabréque. Diese hörte er vorher zuerst im
Posthof singen, wo sie zwei Konzerte in den Tagen
1. und 4. August gab. Weiter dann im Hause Zum
goldenen Brunnen, wo sie am 6. August 1818 einer Kammergesellschaft von Fürst Josef von
Schwarzenberg, dem Bruder von Karl Schwar
zenberg, dem Sieger von Leipzig 1813, nicht öffentlich sang. Der Eintritt in ihre Konzerte im Posthof
betrug respektable 2 goldene Dukaten.
Am Rande dieser Geschichte sei gesagt, dass das
erwähnte Haus Zum goldenen Brunnen Goethe
soweit gefiel, dass er es kaufen wollte um sich
in Karlsbad dauerhaft niederzulassen, dieser Plan
wurde aus unbekannten Gründen nicht verwirklicht. Goethes Freundin Elise von der Recke äußerte sich zu dieser Absicht im Brief von 25. Juli 1807
so: Ich kann Goethe ganz gut verstehen, denn
Karlsbad kann man sowohl mit Salzburg, Tirol,
Italien als auch mit der Schweiz vergleichen.
Im Jahre 1811 gab der junge Poet, ein leiden

jednak přímo v domě Zlatá studna, kde 6. srpna
1818 soukromě zazpívala komorní společnosti knížete Josefa von Schwarzenberga, bratra Karla
Schwarzenberga, vítěze u Lipska roku 1813.
Vstupné na její koncerty v Poštovním dvoře činilo
úctyhodné 2 zlaté dukáty.
Na okraj této historky budiž řečeno, že zmíněný
dům Zlatá studna se Goethovi líbil natolik, že jej

vom Keglewitsch Kreuz. Diese äußerst gelungene
lavierte Zeichnung ist heute in den Sammlungen
des Goethe Denkmals in Weimar archiviert. In

Napoleon und ein häufiger Gast von Karlsbad
Theodor Körner (l79l - l8l3) eine Buchsammlung
von 23 lyrischen Gedichten heraus, in der er die
Sprudelstadt und ihre Umgebung verherrlichte.
Eine von ihnen verehrt mit gehobenen Versen
den zarten Zauber des Tanzes im Sächsischen
Saal. Das Gedicht druckte Franz Sartori in seinem
Karlsbader Reiseführer aus dem Jahre 1817 ab.
Eine große Feier erlebten der Böhmische und der
Sächsische Saal am 3. Juli 1812, als sie selbst der
österreichische Kaiser Franz I. besichtigte, begleitet von seiner Tochter Maria Louise, der französi
schen Kaiserin. Man muss wohl nicht sagen, dass
die höchsten Gäste in den Sälen großartig willkommen wurden. Am Abend fand zu Ehren des
Kaisers ein Festumzug von 1500 Bergleuten aus
den Bergstädten der Karlsbader Umgebung statt.
Es dauerte nicht lange und in der Konzerthalle
des Böhmischen Saales trat eine der größten
Persönlichkeiten der Weltmusikgeschichte auf. Zu
einem außergewöhnlichen Fest für den Böh
mischen Saal und das Karlsbader Musik liebende
Publikum wurde der 6. August 1812. Das Genie
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827), der hier
gerade zur Kur weilte, gab hier, mit dem italie
nischen Geigenspieler Giovanni Battista Polledro
aus Turin, ein Wohltätigkeitskonzert für die
Einwohner des abgebrannten Kurortes Baden bei
Wien. Beethoven und Polledro spielten die Große
Sonate und einige „freie Phantasien“. Der Eintritt
war freiwillig. Der Konzertertrag betrug 958
Gulden, was aber von weiten nicht so viel war,
wie viel Beethoven erwartete. Der enttäuschte
Meister schrieb am 12. August 1812 an seinen
Mäzen Erzherzog Rudolf, dass er in Karlsbad „ein
armes Konzert für Arme“ spielte. Während seines
Aufenthalts in Karlsbad wohnte Beethoven im Hause
Auge Gottes, an dem heute eine Gedenktafel ist.

Goethe’s Pictures and Poems and
Beethoven’s Concert
It is not common knowledge that the works of
some painters and classic German poets are closely linked with Grandhotel Pupp, specifically, with
Czech and Saxony Halls and the Alley. In 1808,
the poet and Jack of all trades from Weimar,
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832), drew
a picture of Czech and Saxony Halls as viewed
from Keglevic’s Cross. Today, the outstanding
wash drawing is among the collections of Goethe’s
Memorial in Weimar. In the same year, Goethe
also drew a wash veduta of Pupp Alley. A year
before (1807), he wrote a sixain perfectly expressing his affection and admiration for Carlsbad:

On 14th August 1818, at The Golden Well house
standing next to Saxony Hall, Goethe wrote a poem praising the art of the celebrated Italian singer,
Angelica Catalani-Valabréque (1782-1849). He
had heard her perform earlier at the Post Yard
where the soprano gave two concerts on 1st and
4th August. He heard her again on 6th August
1818 at The Golden Well where she sang in a private performance to the guests of Josef, the Prince
of Schwarzenberg, the brother of Karl Schwarzenberg,
who won the Battle of Leipzig in 1813. Admission
to her concerts at the Post Yard was two guldens.
In connection with this story, we should mention
that Goethe became so fond of The Golden Well
that he wanted to buy the house and settle in
Carlsbad for good. Due to unknown reasons,
however, he abandoned his plan. Goethe’s friend,
Elise von der Recke, confirmed his intent in her
letter of 25th July 1807: Goethe‘s intent does not
surprise me as Carlsbad may stand comparison
even with Salzburg, Tyrol, Italy, or Switzerland.
In 1811, Theodor Körner (1791-1813), a young
poet, a passionate campaigner against Napoleon,
and a frequent visitor to Carlsbad, published a
collection of 23 lyric poems celebrating the spa
and its surroundings. High-toned verses of one of
the poems laud the delicate magic of dancers at
the Saxony Hall. It was published by Franz Sartori
in his Carlsbad guide in 1817.
The Czech and Saxony Halls were witness to unprecedented festivities on 3rd July 1812 when they
were visited by Emperor Franz I of Austria in the
company of his daughter, Marie Louise, Empress of
the French. There is, indeed, no need to mention
that the noble guests received a grand welcome at
both the halls. A gala promenade of 1,500 miners
from the mining towns surrounding Carlsbad took
place in the evening in honor of the Emperor.
Presently, the concert hall of Czech Hall hosted
one of the greatest personages of world music
history. The sixth day of August in the year 1812
became an extraordinary and remarkable day for
both Czech Hall and Carlsbad music lovers when
a charity concert for the people of the Baden spa
near Vienna, which was devastated by fire, was
given by the musical genius Ludwig van Beethoven
(1770 - 1827) and Italian violinist Giovanni Battista
Polledro of Turin.
Beethoven and Polledro performed the Grand
Sonata and a number of “free fantasies.“ The fee
for admission was voluntary. The funds raised by
the concert amounted to 958 guldens, an amount
which was less than Beethoven had expected. On
12th August 1812, the disappointed Maestro wrote
to his benefactor, Archduke Rudolf, that he had
played a “poor concert for the poor“ in Carlsbad.
During his stay in Carlsbad, Beethoven resided at
God’s Eye, which today bears a memorial plaque.

Starou louku! Ta už toho viděla! Krále, prince, kněžny, žebráky, šašky, hochštaplery, papaláše, lidi zdravé
i nemocné, dobré i zlé. Naše Stará louka je jako vznešená stará dáma, jež má svá nejlepší léta už za sebou.
Je však hrdá a tváří se, jakoby jejími sestrami byly třídy
Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Unter den Linden a Am
Graben. Nemá sice jejich velikost a výstavnost, má
však ducha a šarm, který je neopakovatelný.
A jsme u domů, což je kapitola sama pro sebe. Moc
toho pamatují, a kdyby se neopíraly pevně jeden
o druhý, snad by spadly. Kdo projde jejich dveřmi
dovnitř, bývá často naplněn úžasem nad skvostnými architektonickými a řemeslnými prvky z dávno
zmizelých časů.
Název Stará louka je vžitý ji přes 250 let. Původně
zde byla opravdu louka, jejíž zástavba započala kolem roku 1690. Každý z domů Staré louky by mohl
vyprávět romány. V domech Strauss (1823), Bílý
zajíc (1785) a Mozart (1786) pobýval v Karlových
Varech J.W. Goethe. Jen kousek za někdejším goethovským domem Strauss nás na domě upoutá zlacená soška slona. Upozorňuje kolemjdoucí na památnou kavárnu Elefant. Dům Krásná královna se stejnojmennou restaurací si v půli 18. století postavil
krejčovský mistr Kraus, dvorní dodavatel Marie
Terezie, a na její počest dal domu jméno.
Na samém konci Staré louky, až u Grandhotelu
Pupp, se tyčí nápadná žulová skála, jejíž vrchol
zdobí od roku 1795 velký dřevěný kříž s malbou
Krista. Kříž nechal postavit velkoprobošt Keglevič
z Granu. Kříž za svých lázeňských pobytů v Karlových
Varech si maloval také básník Goethe.
Graben ihre Schwestern wären. Sie ist zwar nicht so
gross und schön erbaut, aber ihr Charme ist unwiederholbar. Sagen wir uns jetzt ein paar Worte über
die Häuser, die in dieser schönen Strasse stehen. Sie
haben viel erlebt und wenn sie sich nicht gegeneinander lehnten, würden sie vielleicht einstürzen.
Doch wer in diese Häuser tritt, bleibt in Bewunderung
stehen. Deren architektonische Elemente und ihre
handwerkliche Durchführung sind nämlich herrlich.
Den Namen Alte Wiese kennt man in Karlsbad
schon seit 250 Jahren. Ursprünglich gab es hier
wirklich eine Wiese. Die ersten Häuser baute man
hier um das Jahr 1690. Im Hause Strauss (1823),
Weisser Hase (1785) und Mozart (1786) wohnte
J.W. Goethe. Hinter dem Haus Strauss zieht die
Aufmerksamkeit der Vorbeigehenden eine kleine
vergoldete Statue des Elefanten. Hier steht nämlich
das denkwürdige Café Elefant an.
Das Haus Schöne Königin mit einem gleichnamigen
Restaurant liess für sich in der Hälfte des 18. Jahr
hunderts der Schneidermeister Kraus, Hoflieferant
von Maria Theresia, erbauen. Ihr zu Ehren gab er
dem Hause den Namen Schöne Königin.
Am Ende der Straße, bis am Grandhotel Pupp,
erhebt sich ein auffallender Granitfelsen. Auf seinem Gipfel befindet sich seit dem Jahre 1795 ein
I am sure everybody in Karlovy Vary knows and likes
the Old Meadow Street. It has already seen a lot.
Kings, princes and princesses, beggars and clowns, ill
and healthy people. The Old Meadow reminds us of
an older noble lady who is past her prime. But it is
proud and makes us think that the avenues ChampsElysée, Unter den Linden and Am Graben are its sisters. It is true that it is not so long and impressive but
it has got a charm and an atmosphere which are
unique. Especially the houses are worth mentioning. They have experienced a lot and they would
maybe fall if they did not lean against each other. If
you enter them, you will be astonished by the beauty of architectonic elements and the workmanship.
The name of the Old Meadow came into being
more than 250 years ago.At that time you could
really find a meadow here. The first houses started
to be built about the year 1690. Each of them
could tell stories. In the houses Strauss (1823),
White Hare (1785) and Mozart (1786) stayed
J.W.Goethe during his visits to Karlovy Vary.
A small gilded statue of an elephant standing behind the Strauss house attracts the attention of
passers-by. It reminds them of the memorable
Elephant Café. The Beautiful Queen House
(Krásná Královna) with a restaurant of the same
name was built for the master tailor Kraus - a purveyor to the court of Marie Theresa - in the middle
of the 18th century. The house got the name in
honour of Marie Theresa. At the very end of the
Old Meadow, next to Grandhotel Pupp, you can
see a striking granite rock. A big wooden cross is
standing at the top of the rock. It is decorated with
a picture of Christ. It was the provost Keglevich
from Gran who ordered a cross to be built here.
The cross can be seen in some of the pictures by
J.W. Goethe. He painted them during his stays in
Karlovy Vary.

Prinzen, Fürstinnen, Bettler, Klaune, Hochstapler,
kranke Leute und gesunde Leute, Gutes und
Schlimmes. Unsere Alte Wiese ist wie eine vornehme ältere Dame, die ihre besten Lebensjahre schon
erlebt hat. Aber sie ist stolz und stellt sich, als ob die
Avenuen Champ-Elysées, Unter den Linden und Am

SVATOŠSKÉ SKÁLY A LOKET
Čeká nás příjemných 25 km (s prodloužením do
Lokte 34 km) s nevýrazným převýšením. Od Grand
hotelu Pupp vyjedeme po proudu řeky Teplé, kolem
divadla, Vřídla a Mlýnské kolonády. U Lázní III přejedeme řeku a Zahradní ulicí míříme k Hlavní poště,
kde se dáme doleva třídou T. G. Masaryka, na ní
navazující spojnicí vlevo na Moskevskou ulici, z níž
odbočíme některou z příčných ulic na klidnou stezku
pod lesem. Jedeme 2 km až k napojení na značenou
cyklotrasu č. 204 a po ní pokračujeme dále lesem či
po jeho kraji do Doubí. Sledujeme stále značení do
údolí řeky Ohře, proti jejímuž proudu pokračujeme až
do Svatošských skal. Zde můžeme obdivovat pojmenovaná skalní uskupení např. Ženich, Nevěsta,
Muzikanti, Svědci buď z terasy jedné z restaurací či
lanového mostu. To zejména v případě, pokud se
rozhodneme pokračovat údolím Ohře až do 7 km
vzdáleného Lokte. Z Lokte, či ze Svatošských skal se
vrátíme po proudu řeky zpět do Doubí, kde na hlavní
silnici odbočíme doprava, abychom ji asi po 600 m
opustili vlevo a vyšlapali k restauraci sv. Linhart (mimo provoz). Lesní silničkou pokračujeme podél zříceniny kostela sv. Linharta až k hájovně, odkud klesáme
serpentinou ke křižovatce u památníku "Kniha", kde
ostře odbočíme vlevo do Křižíkovy ulice. Klesáme
dále k jezírku a restauraci Malé Versailles, za ní po
levé straně vidíme pravoslavný kostel. Od jezírka však
pokračujeme vpravo ulicí Petra Velikého na Zámecký
vrch. Klesáme ulicí kolem věže Karla IV., Zámeckých
lázní a trojičného sloupu zpět k říčce Teplé. Proti jejímu proudu se vracíme po libovolné straně zpět ke
Grandhotelu Pupp.

Terrasse eines der Restaurants oder von der Hänge
brücke. Das vor allem dann, falls man sich entscheidet
durch das Egertal bis ins 7 km entfernte Elbogen
(Loket) weiterzufahren. Aus Elbogen, oder von den
Hans Heiling Felsen kehrt man flussabwärts zurück
nach Doubí, wo man auf der Hauptstraße nach rechts
abbiegt, damit man sie circa nach 600 m links verlässt
und die einzige bedeutende Steigung zum Restaurant
Hl. Linhart (außer Betrieb) bewältigt. Auf einer
Waldstraße fährt man weiter an der Ruine der St.
Linhart Kirche vorbei bis zum Forsthaus, woher man
die Serpentinen zur Kreuzung am Denkmal "Buch"
herunterfährt, wo man scharf nach links abbiegt in die
Křižíkova Straße. Man fährt weiter herunter zum See
und dem Restaurant Klein Versailles, hinter dem man
auf der linken Seite die Orthodoxe Kirche sieht. Von
dem See fährt man aber weiter recht durch die Straße
Peter des Großen auf den Schlossberg. Man fährt die
Straße herunter, an dem Turm Karl IV., dem
Schlossbad und der Dreifaltigkeitssäule vorbei, zurück
zum Fluss Tepl. Flussaufwärts kehrt man auf beliebiger
Seite zum Grandhotel Pupp zurück.

Svatošské skály Rocks and Loket
which will take you to a quiet path under the wood.
You will go for about 2 kilometres until you come
across marked cycle path No. 204 and go on through
the wood or along its edge as far as Doubí. Narrow
road will take you to the valley of the Ohře River. Go
up the river as far as the Svatošské skály Rocks. Here
you can admire groups of rocks which have got names,
e.g. the Groom, the Bride, Musicians or Best Men. Do
it either from the terrace of one of restaurants or from
a rope bridge. You can continue through the valley of
the Ohře River into Loket located 7 kilometres away.
If you go down the river from Loket or the Svatošské
skály Rocks, you will get back to Doubí. You will turn
right on the main road to leave it after about 600 metres and go up to the St. Linhart Restaurant (closed).
A road in the wood will lead you past the ruin of the
St. Linhart Church to the gamekeeper’s lodge and from
here you will go down a double bend to the monument “The Book“. Here you will take a sharp turn to
the Křižíkova Street. Continue going down to a little
lake and the restaurant Small Versailles. You can see
the Russian Church behind the restaurant on the left.
Turn right at the lake and go through Peter the Great
Street to Castle Hill. Then go down the street running
past the Charles IV Tower, the Castle Spa Building and
the Trinity Column back to the River Teplá. If you go
up the river, you will get to the Grandhotel Pupp, no
matter which bank you will choose.
The 25 kilometres (34 with an extension to Loket)
with only mild climbing will be quite pleasant. You
will start at the Grandhotel Pupp and go down the
River Teplá past the theatre, the Sprudel and the Mill
Colonnade. You will cross the river at the Spa
Building III and go to the Main Post Office along
Zahradní Street. Turn left and go along T.G. Masaryk
Street, then along a street connecting it with Moskevská
Street to the left and turn into some of cross-streets

Hans Heiling Felsen und Elbogen
Es erwarten uns angenehme 25 km (mit Abstecher
nach Elbogen 34 km) mit einem geringen
Höhenunterschied. Vom Grandhotel Pupp fährt man
flussaufwärts der Tepl, an dem Theater, dem Sprudel
und der Mühlbrunnkolonnade vorbei. An Bad III
überquert man den Fluss und durch die Zahradní
Straße fährt man zur Hauptpost, wo man nach links
abbiegt, auf die T. G. Masaryk Straße, dann nach links
auf die Moskevská Straße, von der man auf eine der
queren Straßen auf den ruhigen Waldweg abbiegt.
Hier fährt man 2 km bis zum gekennzeichneten
Radweg Nr. 204 und auf ihm fährt man weiter durch
den Wald oder auf seinem Rande nach Doubí. Man
folgt stets die Markierung nach Egertal, wo man fluss
aufwärts bis zum Naturdenkmal Hans Heiling Felsen
