Vážení hosté,
rychlost času je neúprosná - a my již máme polovinu letošního roku za sebou.
Věřím, že jste si užili krásné a odpočinkové léto, plné slunce, lahodného vína a dobré nálady.
Pro hotel je letní sezóna vždy velmi náročná. Letošní Mezinárodní filmový festival navštívila opět velká
řada filmových hvězd i hvězdiček. Mezi ty nejslavnější letos patřily dámy zvučných jmen Susan
Sarandon a Helen Mirren. Z jejich pobytu jsme měli obrovskou radost. O některé fotografie a informace se s Vámi na dalších stránkách Pupp Journalu podělíme.

die Zeit vergeht unerbittlich schnell – wir haben bereits die Hälfte dieses Jahres hinter uns.
Ich hoffe, dass Sie einen schönen und erholsamen Sommer hatten, voller Sonne, mit köstlichem Wein und guter Laune.
Für das Hotel ist die Sommersaison immer sehr anspruchsvoll. Das diesjährige Internationale Filmfestival besuchten wieder zahlreiche

The speed of time is inexorable – and a half of this year is already over.
I do believe that you enjoyed a beautiful summer full of relaxation, sun, delicious wine and a good mood.
The summer season is always very difficult for the hotel. This year’s International Film Festival was visited by a number of big and small
film stars again. Ladies of well-known names Susan Sarandon and Helen Mirren ranked as the most famous of them. We were really
­delighted with their stay here. We will share some photographs and information on the next pages of the Pupp Journal with you.
Do not forget, too, to watch this year’s most important event in our hotel with us – the construction of a new swimming pool and a wellness centre complex. This and even more is waiting for you on the pages of the autumn Pupp Journal which will be as colourful as this

25:18 a 25:23. České volejbalistky tak poprvé v historii vyhrály
Evropskou ligu. Oba týmy si již postupem ze semifinále zajistily
účast v prestižní světové Grand Prix. Turnaj Evropské ligy ve volejbalu žen podpořil Grandhotel Pupp.
Nordic Walking
Příjemné vycházkové trasy v okolí Grandhotelu Pupp jsou vyznavačům severské chůze známé. Koncem června se zde letos již podruhé v rámci akcí zaměřených na podporu aktivního zdraví konal
Tour Nordic Walking 2012. Účastníci akce ušli ve dvou vycházkových trasách celkem 601 km. Nejstarší chodkyni bylo 91 let.
Pro hosty Grandhotelu Pupp jsou hole na nordic walking připraveny k zapůjčení.
Die schönen Wanderwege in der Umgebung vom Grandhotel Pupp
sind den Nordic Walking Liebhabern bekannt. Im Rahmen der
Veranstaltungen zur Unterstützung der aktiven Gesundheit fand
hier Ende Juni dieses Jahres bereits zum zweiten Mal die Nordic
Walking Tour 2012 statt. Die Teilnehmer dieser Veranstaltung
gingen auf zwei Wanderrouten insgesamt 601 km. Die älteste
Teilnehmerin war 91 Jahre alt.
Die Grandhotel Pupp Gäste können sich die Nordic Walking
Stöcke ausleihen.
Friends of Nordic walking know the convenient Nordic walking
routes in the neighbourhood of the Grandhotel Pupp. One of the
events aimed at the support of active health – Tour Nordic Walking
2012 – was held here for the second time at the end of June.
Participants followed two different routes and made altogether
601 kilometres. The oldest of them was a 91-year-old lady.
The Grandhotel Pupp has prepared Nordic walking sticks for its
guests which they can borrow.

České volejbalistky mají velké důvody k radosti. Karlovarská KV
Arena, která hostila volejbalový svátek Evropské ligy žen Final
Four, přinesla českým hráčkám štěstí. V semifinále porazily
Holanďanky 3:1. Ve finále vyhrály nad Bulharskem po setech 26:24,

Das Volleyballfest
Die tschechischen Volleyballspielerinnen haben Grund zum Feiern.
Die Karlsbader KV Arena, wo die Europäische Volleyballliga der
Damen - Final Four stattfand, brachte der tschechischen Mannschaft
Glück. Im Halbfinale besiegte sie die Holländerinnen 3:1. Im Finale
gewann sie über Bulgarien nach Sätzen 26:24, 25:18 und 25:23. Die
tschechischen Volleyballspielerinnen gewannen so zum ersten Mal
in der Geschichte die Europäische Liga. Die beiden Teams sicherten sich bereits mit dem Weiterkommen ins Finale die Teilnahme
im World Grand Prix. Das Turnier der Europäischen Volleyballliga
der Frauen unterstützte das Grandhotel Pupp.
A Volleyball Event
Czech volleyball players have a good reason to be happy. The KV
Arena, which played host to the volleyball holiday – the European
League of Women Final Tour – brought them good luck. They
beat Dutch players 3:1 in the semi-finals. They won 26:24, 25:18
and 25:23 against Bulgaria in the finals becoming so the winner of
the European League for the first time in history. Going through to
the finals secured both teams participation in the prestigious World
Grand Prix. The Grandhotel Pupp supported the tournament of the
European League in Volleyball of Women.
Rotary klub Karlovy Vary
Sídlo tohoto prestižního klubu je na významné adrese: v Grandhotelu
Pupp. Poslední aktivitou rotariánů byla obnova a slavnostní odhalení reliéfů na monumentálním Beethovenově pomníku. Grandhotel
Pupp se na této mezinárodní slavnosti rovněž podílel. Hostil vzpomínkový beethovenovský koncert i výstavu a Intercity meeting
Rotary klubů se slavnostním obědem. Oslav se zúčastnili také rotariáni z Německa a Rakouska. Generální ředitelka Grandhotelu Pupp
zavěsila vzpomínkový věnec na bývalém domě Boží oko, k desce

Pupp. Deska připomíná zdejší Beethovenovy pobyty. Od
doby, kdy zde Ludwig van
Beethoven pobýval a uspořádal benefiční koncert pro vyhořelé lázně Baden u Vídně,
uplynulo právě dvě stě let.
Významného aktu se zúčastnil velvyslanec Spolkové republiky Německo pan Detlef
Lingeman.
Der Rotary Klub Karlsbad
Der Sitz dieses namhaften Klubs ist an einer bedeutenden Adresse:
im Grandhotel Pupp. Die letzte Tätigkeit der Rotarier war die
Erneuerung und die feierliche Enthüllung der Reliefs am monumentalen Beethoven Denkmal. Das Grandhotel Pupp beteiligte sich
ebenfalls an dieser internationalen Feier. Hier fand das BeethovenGedenkkonzert sowie die Ausstellung und das Intercity Meeting der
Rotary Klubs mit einem festlichen Mittagessen. Am Fest nahmen
auch Rotarier aus Deutschland und Österreich teil. Die
Generaldirektorin vom Grandhotel Pupp hängte einen Gedenkkranz
am ehemaligen Haus Auge Gottes, zur Tafel über dem heutigen Café
Pupp. Die Tafel erinnert an die hiesigen Aufenthalte Beethovens.
Seit dem hier Ludwig van Beethoven wohnte und ein
Wohltätigkeitskonzert für den abgebrannten Kurort Baden bei
Wien veranstaltete, vergingen gerade zweihundert Jahre.
Rotary Club Karlovy Vary
The seat of this prestigious club has a prestigious address, too: the
Grandhotel Pupp. The last activity of Rotarians was the renovation
and unveiling of the reliefs on the imposing monument to
Beethoven. The Grandhotel Pupp took part in this international
celebration too. It played host to a Beethovenian concert and an
exhibition as well as the Intercity Meeting of Rotarians with a gala
evening. Rotarians from Germany and Austria also took part in the
celebration. The general director of the Grandhotel Pupp hung
a wreath on the former House God’s Eye, to a plaque above the
present Café Pupp. The plaque commemorates Beethoven’s stays in
Karlovy Vary. Two hundred years have passed since Ludwig van
Beethoven stayed here and organized a benefit concert for the spa
Baden near Vienna which had been destroyed by fire.
Zlatá hokejka
Tradiční anketa o nejlepšího hokejistu České republiky vyvrcholila
23. června 2012 v Grandhotelu Pupp. Loni vyhrál anketu Zlatá

hokejka Jaromír Jágr, jenž má na kontě už nevídaných deset prvenství. Letošní vyhlášení výsledků proběhlo ve znamení triumfu
Patrika Eliáše. Nový majitel sošky jásajícího hokejisty je hvězdou
New Jersey a má za sebou skvělou sezónu. Kde jinde by přítelkyně
a manželky hráčů měly větší šanci předvést svůj půvab, než právě
na předávání této prestižní ceny. Svými nádhernými róbami rozzářily Slavnostní sál.
Der Goldene Eishockeyschläger (Zlatá hokejka)
Die traditionelle Umfrage, die den besten Eishockeyspieler der
Tschechischen Republik bestimmt, erreichte am 23. Juni 2012
im Grandhotel Pupp ihren Höhepunkt. Im vorigen Jahr gewann
Jaromír Jágr, bereits zum zehnten Mal. Dieses Jahr triumphierte
Patrik Eliáš. Der neue Besitzer der Statue des jubelnden
Eishockeyspielers ist ein Star bei New Jersey und hat eine ausgezeichnete Saison hinter sich. Wo anders hätten die Freundinnen
und Ehefrauen der Spieler eine größere Chance ihren Charme zu
zeigen, als gerade auf dieser angesehenen Preisverleihung. Mit
ihren wunderschönen Roben erleuchteten sie den Festsaal.
The Golden Ice-Hockey Stick
The traditional survey on the best ice-hockey player of the Czech
Republic culminated in the Grandhotel Pupp on the 23rd June
2012. Last year it was Jaromír Jágr who had won the Golden IceHockey Stick survey holding so ten unparalleled championships.
This year’s announcement was Patrik Eliáš´s triumph. The new
holder of the small statue of a cheering ice-hockey player is a star
of New Jersey and has just completed a very successful season.
Where else but at the presentation of this prestigious prize would
the girl friends and wives of ice-hockey players have a better opportunity to show their beauty and charm? Their beautiful gowns
made the Festive Hall shine.

Známku vysoké úrovně hotelových služeb uděluje cestovatelský
portál na základě hodnocení hostů.
Grandhotel Pupp obdržel TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence.
Ocenění za vynikající hotelové služby je udělováno pouze hotelům
a restauracím, které jsou cestovateli na portálu TripAdvisor vysoce
hodnoceny v dlouhodobém horizontu. Ze seznamu všech provozů po
celém světě získá toto prestižní ocenění jen přibližně 10 procent z nich.
Pro osvědčení Certificate of Excellence musí být hotel dlouhodobě
hodnocen min. 4 z možných 5 kvalitativních bodů. Dodatečným
kritériem je pak individuální přezkoumání všech recenzí během
posledních 12 měsíců.

Das Grandhotel Pupp erhielt das TripAdvisor® Certificate of
Excellence. Die Wertschätzung für herausragende Hotelleistungen
wird lediglich Hotels und Restaurants verliehen, die von den
Reisenden auf dem Portal TripAdvisor langfristig als außerordentlich empfehlenswert bewertet werden. Von allen Hoteleinrichtungen
erhalten weltweit nur etwa 10 Prozent diese Prestigeauszeichnung.
Für das Certificate of Excellence muss das Hotel langfristig mit
mindestens 4 von 5 möglichen Qualitätspunkten bewertet werden.
Ein weiteres Kriterium ist ferner die individuelle Überprüfung aller

The Grandhotel Pupp received a TripAdvisor® Certificate of
Excellence award. The accolade, which honours hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on TripAdvisor, and is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide. Approximately 10 percent of accommodations listed on TripAdvisor receive this prestigious award.
To qualify for the Certificate of Excellence, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five, as reviewed by travellers on TripAdvisor. Additional criteria include the
volume of reviews received within the last 12 months. Christine

V KARLOVÝCH VARECH
Mgr. Jan Samec se narodil
v Karlových Varech, kde žije
a tvoří. Vystudoval Střední
průmyslovou školu keramickou v Bechyni a Filozofickou
fakultu Univerzity Karlovy
v Pra­ze. Věnuje se kresbě,
malbě a realizacím v architektuře. Svými pracemi je zastoupen v mnoha sbírkách
doma i v zahraničí, např.
i v Národní galerii v Praze,
v galeriích v Chebu, Kar­lo­
vých Varech, Plzni, ale i ve
sbírkách v Německu, Švédsku, USA a dokonce v Bangladéši.
Uskutečnil desítky samostatných výstav a zúčastnil se skupinových
výstav doma i v zahraničí. Je členem Krajské umělecké asociace
a Nového sdružení pražských malířů. Od r. 2004 je ředitelem
Galerie umění v Karlových Varech.
kdyby v tak vynikající kondici, jako je nejznámější hotel v Karlových
Varech, bylo i celé město, byli bychom nadšeni všichni.
Co byste vzkázal našim čtenářům?
Zdá se mi poslední dobou, že se v našem lázeňském městě začíná
„blýskat na lepší časy“, a to mám na mysli nejen oblast kultury. Jestli
mají podobný pozitivní pocit, tak společně věřme a držme palce, ať
je to setrvalý a dlouhodobý trend!

DER KUNSTGALERIE IN KARLSBAD
Jak se Vám žije v Karlových Varech?
Hlavní budova galerie už dlouho volá po zásadní opravě, dům na
Hálkově vrchu, kde jsem prožil dětství, obývají bezdomovci, okolí
zpustlo. Ale loni jsme po velkorysé rekonstrukci otevřeli nádhernou
galerii Becherova vila, takže můžu-li vše shrnout do jedné věty: Žije
se mi tu radostně i smutně.
Mgr. Jan Samec wurde in Karlsbad geboren, wo er bis heute lebt und
wirkt. Er absolvierte die Fachschule für Keramik in Bechyně
(Bechin) und die Philosophische Fakultät der Karlsuniversität zu
Prag. Er zeichnet, malt und realisiert architektonische Projekte.
Seine Werke sind in vielen Sammlungen in Tschechien sowie im
Ausland vertreten, z. B. in der Nationalgalerie in Prag, in den
Galerien in Cheb (Eger), Karlsbad, Plzeň (Pilsen), aber auch in den
Galerien und Sammlungen in Deutschland, Schweden, den USA
und sogar in Bangladesch. Er hatte Dutzende Einzelausstellungen
und er nahm an Gruppenausstellungen zu Hause sowie im Ausland
teil. Er ist Mitglied der Regionalen Künstlerassoziation und des
Neuen Vereins der Prager Maler. Seit dem Jahre 2004 ist er Direktor
der Kunstgalerie in Karlsbad.
Máte ve městě své oblíbené místo?
Je jich víc. K mým oblíbeným patří téměř všechny karlovarské vyhlídky a výšiny, spojené nejen s úchvatnými výhledy na harmonické
propojení městské zástavby a krajinného profilu, ale i s příjemnou
vycházkou. Dole ve městě rád projdu i novou promenádou na Staré
louce či parky u letního kina s lehce dekadentní atmosférou. A nemůžu opomenout stoleté a skvěle udržované dostihové závodiště
s nepopsatelnou atmosférou dostihů.
Wie lebt es sich Ihnen in Karlsbad?
Das Hauptgebäude der Galerie ruft schon lange nach einer grundsätzlichen Rekonstruktion, das Haus am Hálek Hügel, wo ich meine
Kindheit verbrachte, bewohnen Obdachlose, seine Umgebung verwilderte. Aber letzes Jahr eröffneten wir nach einer großzügigen
Rekonstruktion eine wunderschöne Galerie, die Becher Villa, also
wenn ich alles in einem kurzen Satz zusammenfassen kann: Ich lebe
hier glücklich sowie traurig.
Jaký máte vztah ke Grandhotelu Pupp?
Má první vzpomínka se váže na Slavnostní sál tohoto velkolepého
hotelu, kdy jsem coby prvňáček při jakési školní akademii recitoval
na pódiu báseň o čmelákovi a moje ráčkované „BRUM, BRUM“ tak
rezonovalo v reproduktorech, že sál ztichl a následoval velký aplaus.
Takže od té doby je můj vztah k Puppu velmi kladný! Ale vážně –
Haben Sie in der Stadt einen Lieblingsort?
Es gibt mehrere. Zu meinen Lieblingsorten gehören fast alle
Karlsbader Aussichten und Höhen. Ich verbinde sie nicht nur mit
den hinreißenden Aussichten auf das harmonische Bündnis der
Stadtbebauung mit dem Landschaftsprofil, sondern auch mit einem
angenehmen Spaziergang. Unten in der Stadt spaziere ich gern auf

der neuen Promenade der Alten Wiese oder am Freilichtkino durch
die Parkanlagen mit einer leicht dekadenten Atmosphäre. Ich darf
nicht die hundert Jahre alte und toll instand gehaltene Pfer­de­renn­

Welche Beziehung haben Sie zum Grandhotel Pupp?
Meine erste Erinnerung ist mit dem Festsaal dieses großartigen
Hotels verbunden, als ich als Erstklässler während eines Schulfestes
am Podium ein Gedicht über eine Hummel vortrug und mein
gerätschtes „BRUM, BRUM“ resonierte so in den Lautsprechern, dass
der Saal still wurde und es folgte ein großer Applaus. Also seit dieser
Zeit ist meine Beziehung zum Pupp positiv! Aber im Ernst – wenn in
so einem ausgezeichneten Zustand, wie das bekannteste Hotel in
Karlsbad ist, die ganze Stadt wäre, wären wir alle begeistert.
Was würden Sie unseren Lesern ausrichten?
Mir kommt es in der letzten Zeit vor, dass in unserer Kurstadt „bessere Zeiten in Sicht sind“, und damit meine ich nicht nur im Bereich
der Kultur. Falls sie ein ähnliches positives Gefühl haben, so hoffen
wir gemeinsam und halten die Daumen, damit es ein dauerhafter
und langzeitiger Trend wird!

OF THE ART GALLERY IN KARLOVY VARY
Mgr. Jan Samec was born in Karlovy Vary where he lives and creates
his works. He studied the Secondary Ceramic School in Bechyně
and the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. His activities include drawing, painting and architectural realizations. His
works can be found in lots of collections both in our country and
abroad, e.g. in the National Gallery in Prague, galleries in Cheb,
Karlovy Vary and Plzeň but also in galleries and collections in
Germany, Sweden, the U.S.A. and even in Bangladesh. He has
mounted a number of independent exhibitions and has taken part
in group exhibitions in our republic as well as abroad. He is a mem-

ber of the Regional Association of Artists and of the New Association
of Prague Painters. He has been the director of the Art Gallery in
Karlovy Vary since 2004.
What is your life in Karlovy Vary like?
The main building of the gallery has been calling for a radical renovation, the homeless occupy the house on the Hálkův Hill where
I spent my childhood. But we opened a beautiful Villa Becher
Gallery after an extensive renovation last year, so I can summarize
all in one short sentence: My life here is both joyful and sad.
Have you got your favourite places in the town?
More of them. Almost all Karlovy Vary viewing points and heights
offering not only breathtaking views of the harmonious combination of the built up area and landscape but also a pleasant walk are my
favourite. I like walking along the new promenade in Stará louka or
through the parks near the open-air cinema with a slightly decadent
atmosphere. And I cannot forget the hundred-year- old and perfectly kept horse racing court with an indescribable atmosphere of
horse races.
What relationship do you have with the Grandhotel Pupp?
My first memory is connected with the Festive Hall of this magnificent hotel where I – a first-former- recited a poem about a bumblebee during some school event and my badly pronounced „r“ resonated in loudspeakers so much that the audience became absolutely
quiet. Then loud applause followed. So – my relationship with the
Grandhotel Pupp has been very positive since those days. But really
– if all the town was in such a perfect state like the most famous
hotel in Karlovy Vary, we would all be enthusiastic.
What message would you like to send to our readers?
It has seemed to me recently that things are looking up in our town,
and not only in the field of culture. If they have the same positive
feeling, then let us cross our fingers for us and let us hope together
this trend will be permanent and long-lasting.

Užijte si hru na nejstarších
golfových hřištích Evropy
Na sklonku 19. století lákaly léčivé prameny a společenský život do
Karlových Varů vedle tradiční německé a ruské klientely stále více
anglosaské hosty. Ti si do lázní přiváželi zvyklosti své domoviny,
včetně touhy zahrát si i zde golf. Prvním najatým trenérem, který
na pozemcích Grandhotelu Pupp poblíž Březové zasvěcoval hosty
do hry, byl jistý M.W. Brown z Velké Británie.
Úvahy o výstavbě golfových areálů se v tisku objevují od roku 1903
a již o rok později byl založen právě v Karlových Varech vůbec
první golfový klub na území Čech - Internationaler Sport Club
Carlsbad. Přesně 6. září 1904 je datum zrodu golfové tradice na
českém území, u které stál spolek karlovarských šermířů. V roce
1905 vzniklo v údolí říčky Teplé, v tzv. Kaiserparku, hřiště s devíti
jamkami. Část parcel tehdy patřila městu a část hotelu Pupp, který
klub výrazně podporoval. Otevření hřiště bylo obrovským úspěchem. Záhy získalo přízvisko jednoho z nejkrásnějších v RakouskuUhersku. V té době se v monarchii hrálo ještě ve Vídni, Budapešti,
Mariánských a Františkových Lázních, ale v Karlových Varech se až
do roku 1911 hrála amatérská mistrovství Rakouska - právě pro
atmosféru zdejšího hřiště. Klub vydal tiskem první golfová pravidla
na našem území, čímž se už podruhé v krátkém čase zapsal do dějin českého golfu.
Ačkoliv se už od počátku do hraní golfu zapojili také příslušníci
domácích vyšších vrstev, hráli zde především Angličané
a Američané. Mezi hráči také nechyběla ani tak zvučná jména jako
princ Rohan nebo kníže Schönburg. V roce 1906 se zde odehrál
první turnaj o stříbrný pohár věnovaný knížetem Fürstenbergem.
Prvním vítězem této slavné trofeje se stal legendární francouzský
průkopník golfu Diaz Albertini z Paříže, který byl zároveň členem
karlovarského klubu. Ve 20. letech proběhla malá změna názvu,
z Kaiserparku se stal Geysirpark. Ale hřiště bylo už tak přeplněné
hráči, že musely být provizorně umisťovány ochranné sítě kvůli
odpalům. V roce 1928 se začal v Karlových Varech hledat vhodný

prostor pro nové osmnáctijamkové hřiště. Bylo zbudováno
v Olšových Vratech podle francouzského architekta Constantina
Noskowského. Hřiště bylo slavnostně otevřeno 30. června 1935.
Rozkvět karlovarských hřišť přerušila válka. Až v roce 1949 byl
opětovně založen golfový klub, který začal obě zpustlá hřiště spravovat. Areál v Geysirparku byl kvůli prostorovému omezení pro
další rozvoj nevhodný, proto klub dal přednost hřišti v Olšových
Vratech, které si vzal do pronájmu. V roce 1952 bylo v provozu
9 jamek. Po dalších tisících odpracovaných hodin se nadšeným
karlovarským golfistům konečně podařilo obnovit všech 18 jamek.
18. září 1960 bylo hřiště oficiálně znovuotevřeno. V současné době
je v Karlovarském kraji na 10 golfových hřišť. Golf Resort v Olšových
Vratech každoročně navštíví tisíce golfistů z celého světa. V roce
1997 zde byla vybudována architektonicky unikátní klubovna a restaurace Golf Restaurant, kterou provozuje Grandhotel Pupp.

Heimatlandes, einschließlich der Sehnsucht auch hier Golf zu spielen. Der erste eingestellte Trainer, der auf den Grandhotel Pupp

Die Blütezeit der Karlsbader Golfplätze unterbrach der Krieg. Bis
im Jahre 1949 wurde wieder der Golfklub gegründet. Dieser begann beide verwahrloste Golfplätze zu verwalten. Das Gelände im
Geysirpark war wegen dem Raummangel für weitere Entwicklung
ungeeignet, deshalb bevorzugte der Klub den Spielplatz in Olšová
Vrata, den er mietete. Im Jahre 1952 waren 9 Löcher im Betrieb.
Nach weiteren tausenden abgearbeiteten Stunden gelang es endlich
den begeisterten Karlsbader Golfspielern alle 18 Löcher zu erneuern. Am 18. September 1960 wurde der Spielplatz offiziell wiedereröffnet. Zurzeit gibt es in der Karlsbader Region 10 Golfplätze.

Gedanken über den Aufbau von Golfgeländen erscheinen in der
Presse seit dem Jahre 1903 und bereits ein Jahr später wurde gerade
in Karlsbad überhaupt der erste Golfklub am Gebiet Böhmens –
der Internationale Sport Club Carlsbad gegründet. Der 6. September
1904 ist das genaue Datum, an dem die Golftradition am tschechischen Gebiet dank des Karlsbader Fechtvereins begann. Im Jahre
1905 entsteht im Tepltal, im sog. Kaiserpark, ein 9-Loch-Spielplatz.
Ein Teil der Grundstücke gehörte damals der Stadt und ein Teil
dem Hotel Pupp, das den Klub erheblich unterstützte. Die
Eröffnung des Golfplatzes war ein großer Erfolg. Bald bekam er
den Beinamen eines der schönsten Golfplätze in ÖsterreichUngarn. In dieser Zeit spielte man in der Monarchie noch in Wien,
Budapest, Marienbad und Franzensbad. In Karlsbad spielte man
jedoch bis 1911 die Amateurmeisterschaften von Österreich – gerade wegen der Atmosphäre des hiesigen Spielplatzes. Der Klub gab
die ersten Golfregeln auf unserem Gebiet heraus, womit er sich
bereits zum zweiten Mal in kurzer Zeit in die Geschichte des tschechischen Golfs einschrieb.
Obwohl am Golfspiel bereits seit Anfang an auch die heimischen
Angehörigen der höheren Schichten teilnahmen, spielten hier vor
allem die Engländer und Amerikaner. Unter den Spielern fehlten
auch nicht so klangvolle Namen wie Prinz Rohan oder Fürst
Schönburg. Im Jahre 1906 fand hier das erste Turnier um den silbernen Pokal, der von Fürst Fürstenberg gewidmet wurde, statt.
Der erste Gewinner dieser berühmten Trophäe war der legendäre
französische Golfpionier Diaz Albertini aus Paris, der gleichzeitig
Mitglied des Karlsbader Klubs war. In den 20er Jahren wurde der
Name ein wenig verändert, aus dem Kaiserpark wurde der
Geysirpark. Der Spielplatz war schon so von den Spielern überfüllt,
dass man vorübergehend Schutznetze wegen den Abschlägen anbringen musste. Im Jahre 1928 begann man in Karlsbad einen geeigneten Raum für einen neuen 18-Loch-Spielplatz zu suchen. Er
wurde in Olšová Vrata (Espentor) nach den Plänen des französischen Architekten Constantin Noskowski erbaut. Der Spielplatz

of the Oldest Courses in Europe
Apart from German and Russian visitors, more and more AngloSaxon people came to Karlovy Vary in the late 19th century. They
were attracted by its curative springs and social life. They took the
customs and traditions of their native country with them including
the desire for playing golf. The first hired coach that taught visitors
to play golf on the grounds of the Grandhotel Pupp was
a M. W. Brown from Britain. Plans for the construction of a golf
course appeared in the press in the year 1903 and it was just Karlovy
Vary where the very first golf club on the territory of Bohemia was
built a year later – the Internationaler Sport Club Carlsbad. The
6th September 1904 is the date when the golf tradition was born on
the Czech territory. It had been initiated by Karlovy Vary fencers. In
1905 a nine-hole golf course called Kaiserpark was built in the valley
of the Teplá River. In those days a part of the grounds belonged to
the town and a part was owned by the Grandhotel Pupp, which
supported the club considerably. The opening of the golf course was
a huge success. Soon it got the attribute of one of the most beautiful
golf courses in the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy. Other places
where golf was played in the monarchy in those days were Vienna,
Budapest, Mariánské Lázně and Františkovy Lázně, however, it was
Karlovy Vary where amateur championships of Austria were played
– because of the atmosphere of the local golf course. The club published the first golf rules on our territory making so its second mark
on the history of Czech golf.
Although the members of the local higher orders took part in golf
playing from the very beginning, it was particularly the English and
Americans who played here. There were also such fine-sounding
names like Prince Rohan or Count Schönburg among them. The
first tournament for a silver cup dedicated by Count Fürstenberg

was played here in 1906. The legendary French pioneer of golf Diaz
Albertini from Paris, who was the member of the Karlovy Vary golf
club at the same time, became the first winner of this famous trophy.
In the 1920s a small change in the name was carried out and
Kaiserpark was renamed Geysirpark. The golf course was already so
overcrowded with golfers that protective nets had to be put round it
because of strokes. In 1928 a suitable place for a new 18-hole golf
course started to be searched in Karlovy Vary. It was built in Olšová
Vrata from the plans of the French architect Constantin Noskowski.
The opening took place on the 30th June 1935.
The boom of golf courses in Karlovy Vary was interrupted by the
war. It was only in 1949 when the golf club was re-established. It
started looking after both overgrown golf courses. The Geysirpark
grounds could not be extended any more and were therefore not
suitable for further improvements. It was why the club preferred
the golf course in Olšová Vrata, which it leased. 9 holes were renewed by 1952. And later enthusiastic Karlovy Vary golfers managed to renew all 18 holes after thousands of hours of work. On the
18th September 1960 that the golf course was officially opened.
There are about 10 golf courses in the Karlovy Vary region at present. Thousands of golfers from the whole world visit the Golf
Resort in Olšová Vrata every year. In 1997 an architecturally unique
clubroom and a restaurant were built. The Golf Restaurant is run
by the Grandhotel Pupp.

je zřejmě nejtajemnější proces při výrobě skotské whisky. Vypálená
whisky, naředěná na cca 64 %, se stáčí do dubových sudů, v nichž
získává charakteristickou barvu, chuť i vůni. Vzhledem k tomu, že
nové sudy se zásadně nepoužívají, velice záleží na tom, co v sudech
zrálo dříve, a kolikrát byly použity. Nejčastěji používané jsou sudy
po bourbonu nebo sherry. Proces zrání a jeho rychlost jsou také
ovlivněny podnebím. V teplejším prostředí probíhá rychleji, vliv
má i kolísání teplot a poloha skladů - zda leží ve vlhkém prostředí,
u moře či na větru. Mark Skipworth uvádí, že firma Seagram zaslala několik sudů ze Skotska ke zrání whisky do USA, a když se
nápoje po několika letech porovnávaly, vzorek z USA byl naprosto
odlišný od vzorku uloženého ve skotské palírně. Velmi často se
také diskutuje, jaké je optimální stáří whisky. Názor na to není
jednotný a asi ani nebude, všechny whisky, zrající 5 nebo 30 let,
mají své specifické vlastnosti zvýrazněné základním charakterem
té či oné značky. Odborníci se shodují pouze v tom, že sladová
musí zrát déle než obilná. Výsledkem je však vždy osobitý nápoj
charakterizující Skotsko – s nádechem horského vřesu, rašeliny
a mořských řas.
ZPŮSOBY VÝROBY
1. Kotlíkový (pot still) je základní způsob výroby malt whisky, kdy
se používají tradiční měděné armatury a přístroje, charakteristické
pro jednotlivé palírny. Každá palírna má minimálně 2 kotlíky, první větší, kde se odděluje alkohol od vody a získává nízkoprocentní
destilát, a druhý menší, ze kterého jde už skutečná whisky bez dalších příměsí do chladiče. Některé kotle jsou úzké a vysoké, tím
množství páry zkondenzuje dříve, než se dostane do chladiče a díky
důkladnější destilaci je lihovina lehčí, jemnější a voňavější. Některé
kotle jsou široké a krátké, a lihovina je tělnatější, olejovitější a s vyšším obsahem akoholu. Některé jsou téměř trpasličí, příkladem je
Edradour, některé jsou přímo obří jako třeba v Glemorangie, některé jsou robustní a kulaté jako v Auchroisk. Vzhledem k tomu, že
znalci tvrdí, že každá změna na aparatuře se projeví i změnou chuti, v žádné palírně si nedovolí změnit tvar destilačních nádob ani

při sebedůkladnější modernizaci. Velikost a tvar kotle je jedna
z mála věcí, na které po staletí nikdo nehodlá nic změnit.
2. Lomond still je systém, kde destilace probíhá v menší a kompaktnější aparatuře, výsledkem je silnější a hutnější malt whisky, údajně
zdaleka ne tak kvalitní, jako whisky vyrobené tradičním postupem.
Způsob v r. 1955 vyvinul Alistair Cunnigham a Arthur Warren spolu
s Hiramem Walkerem a jeho širší používání skončilo před r. 1990.
Dodnes je používán v palírně Scapa a občas v Loch Lomond.
3. Kolonový způsob (patent still, v USA column still) je systém, kde
se využívají moderní kolony vyvinuté v roce 1873, jejichž původním základem je Coffeyeho destilační přístroj z r. 1830, který byl
zdokonalením přístroje Roberta Steina. Tímto způsobem se získává
lehký destilát s vysokým obsahem alkoholu, vyrábí se tak grain
whisky, vodka i bourbon. V palírně jsou dvojice poměrně velkých
kolon, první je dělicí a druhá rektifikační. Z té již vedeme destilát
do lihového zásobníku. Zpracovávají se tak obiloviny, ve Skotsku
nejvíce pšenice, v USA kukuřice, s přidáním jen nepatrného množství sladového ječmene, výsledkem je čistý alkohol. Výhodou je
kontinuální výrobní proces a tím nesrovnatelně vyšší produkce.
Mimo tyto uvedené způsoby existují ještě další, původně používané
při výrobě jiných destilátů, a dnes v některých mikropalírnách
(zejména v USA) přebudované na pálení whisky. Jedná se např.
o Eau-de-vie a Charentais still běžně užívané při destilaci koňaku,
Holstein still užívaný v pivovarech a Jenever still.

ist wahrscheinlich der geheimnisvollste Prozess während der
Herstellung des schottischen Whiskys. Der gebrannte Whisky,
verdünnt auf ca 64 %, wird in Eichenfässer gefüllt, in denen er eine
charakteristische Farbe, Geschmack sowie Duft bekommt.
Hinsichtlich dazu, dass neue Fässer grundsätzlich nicht benutzt
werden, kommt es sehr darauf an, was in den Fässern davor reifte,
und wie oft sie genutzt wurden. Am häufigsten werden Fässer nach
Bourbon oder Sherry genutzt. Der Reifungsprozess und seine
Schnelligkeit werden auch vom Klima beeinflusst. In einer wärmeren Umgebung verläuft er schneller, Einfluss haben auch die
Temperaturschwankungen und die Position der Fässer – ob sie in
einer feuchten Umgebung, am Meer oder im Wind liegen. Mark
Skipworth erwähnt, dass die Firma Seagram einige Fässer aus
Schottland zur Reifung des Whisky in die USA sendete, und als
man die Getränke nach einigen Jahren verglich, war die
Whiskyprobe aus den USA völlig anders als die, die in der schottischen Brennerei gelagert wurde. Sehr oft wird auch darüber diskutiert, welche das optimale Alter vom Whisky ist. Dazu gibt es keine
einheitliche Meinung und wird es wahrscheinlich nicht geben. Alle
Whiskys, die 5 oder 30 Jahre reifen, haben ihre eigenartigen
Eigenschaften, betont von dem Grundcharakter dieser oder jener
Marke. Die Fachleute sind sich nur darin einig, dass der Malt länger
als der Grain Whisky reifen muss. Das Ergebnis ist jedoch immer
ein eigenartiges Getränk, das Schottland charakterisiert – mit einem Hauch von Heidenkraut, Torf und Meeresalgen.
HERSTELLUNGSVERFAHREN
1. Pot Still ist das grundlegende Herstellungsverfahren für den
Malt Whisky, wobei man die traditionellen Kupferarmaturen und
-geräte benutzt, die charakteristisch für die einzelnen Brennereien
sind. Jede Brennerei hat mindestens 2 Kessel, einen größeren, wo
der Alkohol vom Wasser getrennt wird und man gewinnt ein niedrigprozentiges Destillat, und einen zweiten kleineren, aus dem
schon der tatsächliche Whisky ohne weitere Zusätze in den Kühler
kommt. Manche Kessel sind schmal und hoch, damit kondensiert
die Dampfmenge früher, bevor er in den Kühler kommt und dank
der gründlicheren Destillation ist die Spirituose leichter, feiner
und duftender. Manche Kessel sind breit und kurz, und die
Spirituose ist korpulenter, öliger und mit einem höheren
Alkoholgehalt. Manche sind fast zwergig, ein Beispiel ist Edradour,
manche sind regelrecht riesig wie zum Beispiel in Glemorangie,
mache sind robust und rund wie in Auchroisk. Hinsichtlich dazu,
dass die Kenner behaupten, dass jede Veränderung an der

Apparatur auch Einfluss auf den Geschmack hat, wagt es keine
Brennerei die Form von den Destillationskesseln zu verändern,
auch nicht bei noch so gründlichen Modernisierung. Die Größe
und die Form des Kessels ist eine der wenigen Sachen, die niemend Jahrhunderte lang verändern will.
2. Lomond Still ist ein System, wo die Destillation in einer kleineren und kompakteren Apparatur verläuft. Das Ergebnis ist ein
stärkerer und ein wuchtigerer Malt Whisky, angeblich von weiten
nicht so qualitätsvoll, als der Whisky, der nach traditioneller Art
hergestellt wird. Dieses Verfahren entwickelte im Jahre 1955
Alistair Cunningham und Arthur Warren zusammen mit Hiram
Walker. Vor dem Jahre 1990 endete jedoch seine breitere Benutzung.
Bis heute wird es in der Brennerei Scapa und manchmal in Loch
Lomond verwendet.
3. Das Patent Still Verfahren (in den USA column still) ist ein
System, wobei man die modernen Kolonnen nutzt, die im Jahre
1873 entwickelt wurden, deren urspüngliche Grundlage das Coffey
Destillationsgerät aus dem Jahre 1830 ist, das ein vervollkommnetes Gerät von Robert Stein war. Dank dieses Verfahrens gewinnt
man ein leichtes Destillat mit einem hohen Alkoholgehalt, man
erzeugt so den Grain Whisky, den Wodka sowie den Bourbon. In
der Brennerei gibt es zwei ziemlich große Kolonnen, die eine ist die
Trenn- und die andere die Rektifikationskolonne. Von dieser leitet
man bereits das Destillat in den Spiritusbehälter. Man verarbeitet
so die Getreidekulturen, in Schottland am meisten den Weizen, in
den USA den Mais, mit Zugabe einer nur geringen Menge von
Malzgerste, das Ergebnis ist der pure Alkohol. Der Vorteil ist ein
un­unterbrochener Her­
stellungsvorgang und
somit eine unvergleichlich höhere Produktion.
Außer dieser erwähnten
Verfahren gibt es noch
weitere, ursprünglich bei
der Herstellung von weiteren Destillaten genutzt,
und heute in manchen
Mikrobrennereien (vor
allem in den USA), die
zum Whiskybrennen
umgebaut wurden. Es
handelt sich z. B. um
Eau-de-vie und Cha­ren­
tais still, die üblich bei
der Destillation von
Cognac genutzt werden,
Holstein still, das in den
Brauereien genutzt wird
und Jenever still.

it is not the same and will probably never be. All whiskies maturing
for five or thirty years have their specific qualities stressed by the individual character of this or that brand. Specialists only agree that
malt whisky has to mature for a longer time than grain whisky.
However, the result is always an original spirit which characterizes
Scotland – with a tint of mountain heather, peat and algae.

is probably the most mysterious process of whisky production. Newly
distilled whisky, diluted to about 64 %, is filled in oak casks where it
gets its typical colour, flavour and smell. As new casks are not used on
principle, it is very important to know what matured in the casks
before and how many times they have been used. Casks after bourbon
or sherry are used most often. The process of maturing and its speed
are also influenced by climate. Maturing is faster if the climate is
warm. Variation in temperature and the location of stores exercise
influence too depending on if they are in a humid or windy place or
by the sea. Mark Skipworth says that the Seagram firm sent some
casks from Scotland to the U.S.A. to have whisky matured there and
when the spirits were compared some years later, the sample from the
U.S.A. was completely different from that kept a Scottish distillery. An
optimal age of whisky is frequently discussed as well. The opinion of

1 Pot still type of production is the basic type of malt whisky production which uses copper inwards and apparatuses typical of individual distilleries. Each distillery has at least two pot stills. The first
one is bigger and is used for separating alcohol from water to get
a spirit with a low content of alcohol. The other one is smaller. From
it, real whisky without any ingredients goes to a cooler. Some pot
stills are narrow and high which results in steam condensation
­before it gets to the cooler and then the spirit is lighter, finer and
better smelling thanks to a more thorough distillation. Some pot
stills are wide and short and then the spirit is full-bodied, more oily
and with a higher amount of alcohol. Some of them are almost
dwarf-like, such as those is Edradour, and some are giant like those
in Glemorangie, some are robust and round like in Auchroisk. As
­experts say that each change to the equipment results in the change
in the flavour of whisky, no-one in any distillery dares to change the
shape of distilling vessels no matter how thoroughly the distillery is
being modernized. The shape and size of the still is one of few things
nobody has ever intended to change for centuries.
2 Lomondstill is a system where distillation takes place in a smaller
and more compact device and the result is stronger and richer malt
whisky which is reputedly not of such a good quality like whisky made
in a traditional way. This type of production was invented by Alistair
Cunningham and Arthur Warren together with Hiram Walker in 1955
and its wider use finished before the year 1990. It has been used in the
Scapa Distillery and sometimes in Loch Lomond until these days.
3 Patent still (columnstill in the U.S.A.) type of production is a system which uses modern stills invented in the year 1873. They are
based on the original Coffey still dating from 1830, which was an
improvement of Robert Stein’s still. The final product is a light
spirit with a high content of alcohol. Both grain whisky and vodka
and bourbon are made in this way. There are pairs of relatively big
stills in the distillery – the first one is a separating still and the other
is a rectification still. From the latter one, the spirit goes to a storage tank. Grain is processed (most often wheat in Scotland and
maize in the U.S.A.) with only a small addition of rye malt. The
result is pure alcohol. An advantage of this method is a continuous
manufacturing process resulting in much higher production.
Apart from these above mentioned methods of production, there
are also others, which were originally used in the production of
other spirits and which are still used in some microdistilleries
­today (especially in the U.S.A.) which have been converted into
whisky distilleries. They are e.g. Eau-de-vie and Charentais still
commonly used in brandy distillation, Holstein still used in breweries and Jenever still.

K nejprestižnějším hostům letošního Mezinárodního filmového
festivalu v Karlových Varech patřila americká herečka Susan
Sarandon, nositelka Oscara z r. 1995 za film Mrtvý muž přichází
(Dead Man Walking). Festivalovému publiku letos osobně představila film Jeff, který žije s mámou (Jeff Who Lives at Home). V průběhu slavnostního zakončení festivalu převzala Křišťálový globus
za mimořádný umělecký přínos světové kinematografii.
Susan Sarandon je ve svých pětašedesáti letech krásná, vtipná
a bezprostřední. Původně nesměřovala k herectví, ale studovala
matematiku a filosofii na Catholic University ve Washingtonu. Zde
také poznala svého prvního manžela, herce Chrise Sarandona.
První herecký úspěch jí přinesly role v krimikomedii Joe a ve filmu
Děvčátko (Pretty Baby). Skutečnou hvězdou se stává v osmdesátých letech po roli v komedii Čarodějky z Eastwicku (The Witches
of Eastwick). Další filmy jí vynesly čtyři nominace na Oscara
(Atlantic City, Thelma and Louise, Lorenzo´s Oil). Umí uchopit
role různých žánrů, takže přicházejí čtyři nominace na cenu Zlatý
globus. První nominaci jí vynesl film Bull Durham. Při natáčení
tohoto filmu se seznámila s hercem a režisérem Timem
Robinsonem, který se stal jejím dlouholetým životním partnerem.
Další nominace získala za filmy White Palace, Stepmom, Bernard
and Doris. Na Mezinárodním filmovém festivalu Karlovy Vary
v roce 2009 byl uveden snímek The Greatest, kde vytvořila hlavní
roli spolu s Piercem Brosnanem.
Susan Sarandon se kromě umělecké činnosti věnuje své rodině
a charitativním, sociálním i politickým aktivitám. V roce 1999 byla
velvyslankyní dobré vůle UNICEF.

Zu den berühmtesten Gästen des diesjährigen Internationalen
Filmfestivals in Karlsbad gehörte die amerikanische Schauspielerin
Susan Sarandon, die Oscarpreisträgerin aus dem Jahre 1995 für den
Film Dead Man Walking – Sein letzter Gang. Dem Festivalpublikum
stellte sie dieses Jahr persönlich den Film Jeff, der noch zu Hause
lebt (Jeff Who Lives at Home) vor. Während des feierlichen
Festivalabschlusses übernahm sie den Kristallglobus für den außergewöhnlichen künstlerischen Beitrag zur Welt­kine­matographie.
Susan Sarandon ist mit ihren fünfundsechzig Jahren schön, witzig
und unmittelbar. Ursprünglich wollte sie eigentlich keine
Schauspielerin werden, sie studierte Mathematik und Philosophie
an der Catholic University in Washington. Hier lernte sie auch
ihren ersten Ehemann, den Schauspieler Chris Sarandon kennen.
Den ersten schauspielerischen Erfolg brachten ihr die Rollen in der
Krimikomödie Joe und im Film Pretty Baby. Ein echter Star wird
sie in den achtziger Jahren mit der Rolle in der Komödie Die Hexen
von Eastwick (The Witches of Eastwick). Weitere Filme brachten ihr
vier Oscar-Nominierungen (Atlantic City, Thelma and Louise,
Lorenzo´s Oil). Sie kann Rollen verschiedener Genres ergreifen,
daher folgen vier Golden Globe Nominierungen. Die erste
Nominierung brachte ihr der Film Annies Männer (Bull Durham).
Während der Dreharbeiten an diesem Film lernte sie den
Schauspieler und Regisseur Tim Robinson kennen, der zu ihrem
langjährigen Lebenspartner wurde. Weitere Nominierungen bekam sie für die Filme White Palace, Stepmom, Bernard and Doris.
Am Internationalen Filmfestival Karlsbad wurde im Jahre 2009 der
Film The Greatest aufgeführt, wo sie die Hauptrolle zusammen mit
Pierce Brosnan darstellte.
Außer ihrer künstlerischen Tätigkeit widmet sich Susan Sarandon

Vary. She personally presented the film Jeff Who Lives at Home to
the festival audience and was awarded the Crystal Globe for
Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema during the
final festival ceremony.
Sixty-five-year- old Suzanne Sarandon is beautiful, witty and spontaneous. She originally did not strive for acting but she studied
maths and philosophy at the Catholic University in Washington.
Here she got to know her first husband, the actor Chris Sarandon.
Her first acting successes were the parts in the criminal comedy Joe
and in the film Pretty Baby. But it was only after she had played
a part in the comedy The Witches of Eastwick in the 1980s that she
became a star. Other films brought her four nominations for an
Oscar (Atlantic City, Thelma and Louise, Lorenzo’s Oil). As she is
able to play parts of different genres, four nominations for the

Blízká budoucnost
V prvních lednových dnech letošního roku byly zahájeny práce
v rámci projektu „Balneo a wellness - rekonstrukce a dostavba
Grand­hotelu Pupp Karlovy Vary“.
V prvním patře se již rýsuje recepce nového balneoprovozu a wellness pro dva se zážitkovou vanou a infrasaunou (Balneo I). V dalších třech patrech budou dosazeny vany a lehátka pro bahenní,
masážní, perličkové, uhličité koupele, rašelinové zábaly a různé
typy masáží.
Výstavba nové budovy wellness centra s bazénem byla zahájena v půli července po odjezdu hostů filmového festivalu. Vjezd do zadní
části hotelu byl kvůli bezpečnosti hostů ohrazen a v pondělí 23. července bylo možno pozorovat před Grandhotelem Pupp zatím největší manévry při montáži 45 m vysokého jeřábu do dvora hotelu.
Zcela nová budova v areálu hotelu bude skrývat relaxační bazén,
odpočinkové molo, meditační a masážní bazén, květinovou a perličkovou lázeň, saunu, páry, ledovou kašnu a odpočívárnu. Po dostavbě, plánované na závěr roku, dojde k napojení na budovu
Grandhotelu Pupp a rekonstrukcí stávajícího hotelového relaxačního centra bude vybudován další provoz Balneo II s moderním fitness centrem, hlavní recepcí komplexu Pupp Royal Spa, lékařskými
ordinacemi a místnostmi pro další lázeňské procedury.

In den ersten Januartagen dieses Jahres wurde mit den Bauarbeiten
im Rahmen des Projektes „Balneo und Wellness – Rekonstruktion
und Anbau vom Grandhotel Pupp Karlsbad“ begonnen.
In der ersten Etage zeichnet sich bereits der Empfang des neuen
Balneobetriebes sowie ein Wellnessraum für zwei mit einer
Erlebniswanne und einer Infrasauna (Balneo I). In den weiteren
drei Etagen werden Wannen und Liegen für Schlamm-, Massage-,

Mit dem Aufbau des neuen Wellness-Center-Gebäudes mit
Swimming­pool wurde Mitte Juli nach der Abfahrt der Film­
festivalgäste begonnen. Die Einfahrt in den hinteren Hotelteil
wurde wegen der Sicherheit der Gäste umzäumt und am Montag
den 23. Juli konnte man vor dem Grandhotel Pupp bisher die größten Manöver während der Montage des 45 m hohen Kranes in den
Hotelhof beobachten.
Das völlig neue Gebäude im Hotelkomplex wird ein Erholungsbassin,
einen Erholungssteg, ein Meditations- und Massagenbecken, ein
Blumen- und Perlenbad, eine Sauna, ein Dampfbad, einen
Eisbrunnen und einen Erholungsraum verbergen. Nach dem geplanten Abschluss der Bauarbeiten am Ende des Jahres wird das
Gebäude mit dem Grandhotel Pupp verbunden und mit der
Renovierung des jetzigen Erholungscenters wird ein weiterer
Betrieb Balneo II mit einem modernen Fitnesscenter, dem Haup­t­
empfang des Pupp Royal Spa Komplexes, mit Arzt­sprechzimmern
und mit Räumlichkeit für weitere Kuran­wendungen geschaffen.

The brand new building on the grounds of the hotel will house
a swimming pool with a relaxation area, a meditation and massage
swimming pool, a flower and pearl bath, a sauna, steam, an ice
fountain and a rest room. After its completion, which is planned for
the end of the year, it will be connected with the building of the
Grandhotel Pupp. Another balneological department, Balneo II
with a modern fitness centre, the main reception of the Pupp Royal
Spa complex, doctors´rooms and rooms for providing other spa
treatments, will come into being through the renovation of the
present hotel relaxation centre.

Near future
Construction works which started early in January are a part of the
project „Balneo and Wellness – Renovation and Completion of the
Grandhotel Pupp“.
The reception of a new spa department and a wellness department
for two with an experience bath and an infrasauna (Balneo I) are

equipped with baths and deckchairs as mud, massage, pearl and
carbon dioxide baths as well as peat packs and different sorts of
massages will be provided here.
The construction of the new building of the wellness centre was
started after the departure of visitors to the film festival in midJuly. The access to the back part of the hotel was fenced in for safety reasons and then, on Monday 23rd July, it was possible to watch

Galerie umění
Od Grandhotelu Pupp se krátkou procházkou proti
proudu řeky Teplé dostanete k zajímavé dvoukřídlé budově z roku 1911. Sídlí tu Galerie umění. Již v roce 1912 zde
byla otevřena velká výstava německých umělců žijících
v Čechách. Během 1. světové války byla výstavní činnost přerušena a ve 20. letech sloužily prostory galerie Obchodní a živnostenské komoře v Chebu. Od roku 1930 se zde pořádaly výstavy evropského umění. Poválečná činnost galerie byla obnovena už v srpnu
1946 u příležitosti I. filmového festivalu výstavou karlovarských
vedut. O rok později zde Anna Masaryková zahájila výstavu českého
moderního umění ze sbírek Národní galerie v Praze. V letech
1948–1952 následovala řada různorodých výstav.
Galerie umění jako odborné zařízení vznikla v roce 1953. Za dobu
své existence shromáždila obsáhlé sbírky českého umění, z nichž
nejvýznamnější a nejhodnotnější díla jsou trvale prezentována v počtu asi sto padesáti obrazů a soch od počátků vzniku moderního
výtvarného umění přes orientaci na evropské směry expresionismus,
fauvismus, kubismus. V třicátých letech je vystřídal surrealistický
projev. K velmi významnému celku galerijních sbírek patří díla,
vzniklá v 60. letech 20. století. Vývojově mnohovrstevnatou podobu
stálé expozice českého umění uzavírá kolekce soudobého českého
umění. Program krátkodobých výstav sleduje převážně současné
umělecké dění v různých generačních a výtvarných přístupech.
Ke Galerii umění náleží také Interaktivní galerie Becherova vila na
Zámeckém vrchu, kde jsou pořádány krátkodobé výstavy a výtvarné
workshopy. V nedalekém Ostrově najdete v zámeckém parku půvabný
letohrádek s výstavami zaměřenými především na grafickou tvorbu.
Die Kunstgalerie
Ein kurzer Spaziergang von dem Grandhotel Pupp führt uns stromaufwärts des Flusses Tepl zu einem interessanten Zweiflügelgebäude
aus dem Jahre 1911. Hier gibt es die Kunstgalerie. Bereits im Jahre
1912 wurde hier eine große Ausstellung der deutschen Künstler, die in

Böhmen lebten, eröffnet. Während des 1. Weltkrieges wurden die
Ausstellungen unterbrochen und in den 20er Jahren dienten die
Räumlichkeiten der Galerie der Handels- und Gewerbekammer zu
Eger. Seit dem Jahre 1930 fanden hier Ausstellungen der europäischen
Kunst statt. Die Aktivität der Galerie wurde nach dem Krieg schon im
August 1946 anlässlich des I. Filmfestivals mit der Ausstellung der
Karlsbader Veduten erneuert. Ein Jahr später eröffnete hier Anna
Masaryková die Ausstellung der modernen tschechischen Kunst aus
den Sammlungen der Nationalgalerie in Prag. In den Jahren 1948–
1952 folgte eine Reihe von verschiedenen Ausstellungen.
Die Kunstgalerie als eine Facheinrichtung entstand im Jahre 1953.
Während ihres Bestehens sammelte sie umfangreiche Sammlungen
der tschechischen Kunst. Die bedeutendsten und wertvollsten
Werke werden dauerhaft ausgestellt. Etwa hundertfünfzig Bilder
und Statuen von den Anfängen der modernen bildenden Kunst,
orientiert auf die europäischen Kunstrichtungen Expressionismus,
Fauvismus und Kubismus, die in den dreißiger Jahren vom
Surrealismus abgelöst wurden. Zu einem sehr bedeutenden Teil der
Galeriesammlungen gehören die Werke, die in den 60er Jahren des
20. Jahrhunderts entstanden. Eine von der Entwicklung her mehr­
schichtige Gestaltung der Dauerausstellung der tschechischen
Kunst wird von der Kollektion der derzeitigen tschechischen Kunst
abgeschlossen. Das Programm der Sonderausstellungen verfolgt
überwiegend das heutige künstlerische Geschehen bei verschiedenen Generationen und ihre bildkünstlerische Einstellungen.
Zur Kunstgalerie gehört auch die Interaktive Galerie die Becher
Vila am Schlossberg (Zámecký vrch), wo man kurzzeitige
Ausstellungen und bildkünstlerische Workshops veranstaltet. Im
nahe liegenden Ostrov (Schlackenwert) findet man im Schosspark
ein malerisches Lustschloss mit Ausstellungen, deren Schwerpunkt
vor allem die Grafik ist.

The Art Gallery
You will come to an interesting two-winged building dating from
1911 if you take a short walk from the Grandhotel Pupp up the
Teplá River. It houses the Art Gallery. A big exhibition of works by
German artists living in Bohemia was opened here in 1912 already.
Exhibiting activities were interrupted during World War I and
gallery rooms were used by the Chamber of Commerce and Trade
from Cheb in the 1920s. Exhibitions of European art were organized here from 1930. The post-war activity of the gallery was restored with an exhibition of Karlovy Vary vedute on the occasion of
the first film festival in the August 1946. A year later, Anna
Masaryková opened an exhibition of Czech modern art from the
collections of the National Gallery in Prague. A number of different
exhibitions followed from 1948 to 1952. The Art Gallery as a professional institution was established in 1953. It has gathered extensive collections of Czech art during the time of its existence. The
most important and valuable works are exhibited permanently, i.e.
about 150 pictures and statues representing the beginnings of modern art including European styles like expressionism, fauvism or
cubism. They are followed by surrealistic works of the 1930s. A very important part of the collections are works created in the 1960s.
The permanent exhibition, which covers several periods in the
development of Czech modern art, is closed with a collection of
Czech contemporary art. The programme of short-time exhibitions
focuses mainly on contemporary art and different attitudes to it.
A part of the Art Gallery is the Interactive Gallery Becherova Villa
on the Castle Hill where short-time exhibitions and workshops are
organized. The is also a beautiful pavilion in the park surrounding
the chateau in nearby Ostrov where especially exhibitions focusing
on graphic art are mounted.

Světové lázně byly a jsou místem setkávání osobností, šíření myšlenek, vnímání uměleckých děl a vytváření kulturních tradic. Spojení
Karlových Varů se jménem slavného českého skladatele Antonína
Dvořáka je pro některé návštěvníky lázeňského města milým překvapením. Několik stránek skladatelovy životní knihy je popsáno
zajímavými událostmi z jeho sedmi pobytů a návštěv Karlových
Varů. Setkával se zde s berlínským nakladatelem Fritzem Sim­
rockem, hudebním kritikem doktorem Eduardem Hanslickem,
s přáteli z pražské konzervatoře, ve styku byl s rodinou karlovarských skladatelů a dirigentů Josefa a Augusta Labitzkých. V karlovarských lázeňských domech se uskutečnily intimní premiéry některých jeho skladeb, nevšední ohlas měla kontinentální premiéra
symfonie Z Nového světa v Poštovním dvoře 20. července 1894.
Právě Dvořákovy pobyty v Karlových Varech a kontinentální premiéra symfonie Z Nového světa v tomto městě vytvořily základ
karlovarské hudební tradice, ke které se hlásí hudební festival
Dvořákův karlovarský podzim, Mezinárodní pěvecká soutěž
Antonína Dvořáka a Mezinárodní pěvecké centrum Antonína
Dvořáka. Také koncertní sál v Lázních III nese Mistrovo jméno,
které se objevuje i v dalších názvech. Pobyt slavného skladatele
v lázeňském městě připomíná několik výtvarných děl.
Nejvýraznější je bronzová socha, zobrazující prostovlasou skladatelovu postavu, oděnou ve fraku, s dirigentskou hůlkou, stojící ve
Dvořákových sadech. Socha byla odhalena v roce 1974 na počest
sedmi pobytů Antonína Dvořáka v Karlových Varech a k 70. výročí
skladatelovy smrti. Autorem bronzové sochy je karlovarský sochař
Karel Kuneš. Nadživotní socha skladatele stojí na žulovém podstavci a na přední straně najdeme zlacenou faksimili Dvořákova podpisu. Také ve Slavnostním sále Grandhotelu Pupp můžete vpravo na
portále jeviště nalézt bustu slavného skladatele.
Osobnost Antonína Dvořáka a jeho hudba prolíná tímto městem,
tímto světem, našimi životy.

Namen des berühmten tschechischen Komponisten Antonín
Dvořák ist für manche Kurortbesucher eine angenehme
Überraschung. Einige Seiten des Lebensbuchs Dvořák sind mit
interessanten Fakten aus seinen sieben kurzen Aufenthalten und
Besuchen Karlsbads vollgeschrieben. Er traf hier seine Freunde aus
der Musikwelt. In Karlsbader Kurhäusern fanden Privatpremieren
einiger seiner Kompositionen statt, einen ungewöhnlichen
Widerhall fand die Premiere seiner Symphonie Aus der Neuen
Welt im Posthof 20. Juni 1894.
Gerade Dvořáks Aufenthalte in Karlsbad und die kontinentale
Premiere seiner Symphonie Aus der Neuen Welt in dieser Stadt
bildeten die Grundlage der Karlsbader Musiktradition, zu der sich
das Musikfestival Dvořáks Karlsbader Herbst, der Antonín Dvořák
Internationale Gesangswettbewerb und das Antonín Dvořák
Internationale Gesangszentrum, bekennen. Auch der Konzertsaal
im Bad III trägt des Meisters Namen, welcher auch in anderen
Benennungen vorkomm. An den Aufenthalt des berühmten
Komponisten in der Kurstadt erinnern auch einige Bildwerke.
Am bedeutendsten ist die Bronzestatue, die die barhäuptige Gestalt
des Komponisten darstellt, im Frack gekleidet und mit Dirigentenstab.
Sie steht im Dvořák Park. Die Statue wurde im Jahre 1974 zu Ehren
der sieben Aufenthalte von Antonín Dvořák in Karlsbad und zum
70. Jahrestag seines Todes enthüllt. Der Autor der Bronzestatue ist
der Karlsbader Bildhauer Karel Kuneš. Die überlebensgroße Statue
des Komponisten steht am Granitsockel und an der Vorderseite findet man die goldene Faksimile Dvořáks Unterschrift. Auch im
Festsaal vom Grandhotel Pupp kann man rechts am Bühnenportal
die Büste des berühmten Komponisten finden.
Die Persönlichkeit Antonín Dvořák und seine Musik ergreift diese
Stadt, diese Welt und unsere Leben.

The world-famous spa has always been a place where personalities
have met, ideas have been spread, works of art have been presented
and cultural traditions have been continued. The connection of
Karlovy Vary and the name of the famous Czech composer
Antonín Dvořák is a pleasant surprise for some of the visitors to the
spa town. Several pages of Dvořák's book of life are covered with
the depiction of interesting events from his seven short stays and
visits to Karlovy Vary. He did not come to take a cure here; being
a villager he was always in good health. He used to meet his friends
from the world of music here. Some of his compositions were played in Karlovy Vary spa houses for the same time, especially his
New World Symphony met with an unusual response in the Post
Court on its first night – on the 20th June 1894.
It was just Dvořák´s stays in Karlovy Vary and the first continental
performance of his symphony From the New World that created
the basis of the Karlovy Vary music tradition, whose parts are the
music festival Dvořák, International Antonín Dvořák Contest of
Singing and International Antonín Dvořák Centre of Singing. The
concert hall in the Spa Building III, too, bears the Master’s name
which also appears in the names of other buildings and places.
Several works of art commemorate the famous composer’s stays in
the spa town.
The most noticeable bronze statue representing a bareheaded figure of the composer dressed in a tailcoat and with a baton stands in
Dvořák Park. The statue was unveiled in the year 1974 to remember seven stays of Antonín Dvořák in Karlovy Vary as well as his
70th death anniversary. The bronze statue is a work of the Karlovy
Vary sculptor Karel Kuneš. The larger than life statue stands on
a granite base and you can see a gilded facsimile of Dvořák´s signature on its front side. There is also a bust of the famous composer
right (left) of the stage in the Festive Hall in the Grandhotel Pupp.

11. listopadu v 11 hodin se tradičně otevírají Svatomartinská vína,
první vína nového ročníku. Jsou to vína svěží a ovocitá, která zrála
pouhých několik týdnů. Svatomartinské víno je známé od dob císaře
Josefa II. a své oblíbenosti se těší i nyní. K vybranému Svatomartinskému
vínu připravuje kuchařský tým Grandhotelu Pupp husí hody.

enjoying popularity today. The team of cooks of the Grandhotel
Pupp prepares a goose feast to the select St. Martin wine.
The first bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau will be uncorked on
Thursday 15th November. The tradition of young French wine
­came into being in 1951. It is made from the variety Gamay which
provides fresh light wines. You cannot resist an invitation to taste it
in the Grandrestaurant, especially if it is accompanied by specialties
of French cuisine.
Am 11. November um 11 Uhr werden traditionell die St. Martins­
weine geöffnet, die ersten Weine des neuen Jahrganges. Es sind
frische und fruchtige Weine, die nur einige Wochen reiften. Der St.
Martinswein ist seit der Zeit des Kaisers Josef II. bekannt und ist bis
heute sehr beliebt. Zum erlesenen St. Martinswein bereitet das
Kochteam vom Grandhotel Pupp ein Gänseschmaus vor.
Am Donnerstag, den 15. November werden die ersten Flaschen
von Beaujolais Nouveau entkorkt. Die Tradition des französischen
jungen Weines entstand im Jahre 1951. Er wird ausschließlich aus
der Sorte Gamay erzeugt, die leichte frische Weine gibt. Der
Einladung zur Kostprobe im Grandrestaurant können Sie sicher
nicht widerstehen, zumal sie von den Spezialitäten der französi­
schen Küche begleitet wird.
